Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 206

He paused, lifting his gaze to meet Arthur's. There was zero mercy in those obsidian depths.

"If Xavier recovers, they might walk away breathing. But if anything happens to that boy..."

A vicious smirk curled his lips, though the smile didn't reach his eyes.

"I'll send all five of them to the grave to keep him company."

A chill raced down Arthur's spine. He gave a sharp nod. "Understood, boss. I'll handle it immediately."

He turned to leave, but Hudson stopped him.

"Hold on. Get Liam down here. His surgical skills are top-tier. I want him in that OR keeping an eye on things."

Arthur hesitated. "But boss, the top surgeons in San Francisco are already operating on him..."

"Call him," Hudson commanded flatly. "I don't trust a room full of strangers with her brother's life."

Arthur understood immediately. "Right away."

Watching Arthur vanish, Hudson finally pushed back into the corridor.

Nora was exactly where he had left her, frozen in the same desolate posture.

Hudson walked over, sank onto the bench beside her, and wrapped a strong arm around her shoulders, pulling her flush against his side.

She stiffened for a fraction of a second before melting into his embrace. Resting her head on his shoulder, she closed her eyes, her eyelashes fluttering wildly like frantic butterfly wings.

Hudson remained quiet, simply tightening his hold to anchor her against the storm.

The hallway fell silent again, the tense quiet punctuated only by the faint hum of the surgical monitors and the occasional ring of the phone at the nurse's station.

Time dragged on, every minute feeling like a brutal test of endurance.

...

Meanwhile, Arthur reached the elevator banks and pressed the down button. The doors slid open, and he stepped inside.
