The weekend arrived at the hunting grounds.
Located in the mountainous region at the northernmost edge of Northampton, the preserve spanned thousands of acres. Rolling hills and lush, dense forests stretched as far as the eye could see.
At the foot of the mountain sat a row of elegant wooden villas with white walls and gray roofs, tucked away amidst a bamboo grove. The crisp scent of grass and timber floated in the air.
Grant Hamilton had arrived early. He was dressed in a dark green hunting jacket and riding boots, with a hunting knife strapped to his leather belt. He looked exceptionally flashy.
"Hudson! Nora!"
He waved from a distance, his eyes crinkling in a carefree, blinding grin. "Over here!"
As soon as Nora stepped out of the car, Grant bounded over and gave her a huge thumbs-up.
"You're amazing, Nora! You're the only one who could actually get Hudson to agree to come out here!"
Nora kept her expression perfectly composed, but internally, she was cursing Grant into oblivion.
It was all his fault.
That 'gift' he had given them was practically an instrument of torture.
Hudson was already demanding enough on a normal day. When she wore that outfit, he had absolutely wrecked her.
By the end of it, her voice was so hoarse she couldn't even make a sound...
"Nora? Are you alright? Why is your face so red?"
"It's just hot..." Nora forced the words through gritted teeth.
Oblivious, Grant continued showering her with creative compliments until Nora managed a very strained smile.
"What are we talking about?" Hudson draped an arm over Nora's shoulders, pulling her effortlessly into his side.
"Oh, nothing, nothing..."
Grant let out an awkward laugh and turned to look down the mountain path, quickly changing the subject. "Isn't Jude Winslow supposed to be here? Where is he?"
