But he should be in class right now. Why would he show up at her office?
Besides, he had her cell number. If it were urgent, he would just call. He wouldn't show up unannounced.
It couldn't be her mother, either.
They had spoken just an hour ago, and Penelope had given her the usual song and dance about coming home.
She had ignored the demand and hung up.
Was it possible her mother had tracked her down here?
The more Nora thought about it, the more uneasy she felt. Deciding it wasn't worth the mental gymnastics, she grabbed her phone and headed out.
"Want me to come with you?" Chloe called after her.
"No, it's fine. Go back to work."
Nora waved her off and strode briskly to the elevator.
Stepping into the bustling ground-floor lobby, she scanned the area but didn't see anyone familiar.
As confusion set in, a woman's voice called out, "Nora..."
She turned around to see Ginger standing nearby.
Ginger wore an emerald silk dress, her hair pinned in a flawless updo, and jade earrings gleaming at her lobes. She oozed the quiet, untouchable elegance of high society.
Nora was completely taken aback.
She never would have guessed that the so-called 'family member' was Ginger.
"I hope I'm not interrupting," Ginger said, her tone polite.
Nora frowned slightly. She didn't know the full scope of the blood feud between Hudson and Silas, but the memory of Hudson driving a hunting knife straight through Silas's palm at Cloudwater Estate was permanently seared into her brain.
For two brothers to escalate to lethal violence, the underlying betrayal had to be darker than any outsider could fathom.
