Whenever those two bullied her too relentlessly, Marcus would always step in and say a few words in her defense.

Because of his presence, Jade never dared to torture her too openly.

It was safe to say that Marcus was one of the few sources of kindness she had ever experienced in the Reed Residence.

"Nora, are you busy?" Marcus's voice came through the line, carrying its usual polite warmth.

"Not too busy. Did you need something?"

"Well..." Marcus paused, seemingly searching for the right words. "Do you have some free time recently? If you do, come home for a visit. I have some things I'd like to talk to you about."

"If there's something you need to say, you can just tell me over the phone."

A brief silence followed on the other end.

Marcus let out a soft sigh. "Nora, I know the family wronged you with the whole wedding substitution. If you hadn't stepped in when Jade ran away, we wouldn't have survived the fallout. Logically, we owe you a massive debt, and I shouldn't be asking you for anything else."

Nora remained silent, waiting for him to finish.

"But marriage is a lifelong commitment. I have to put my pride aside and ask..."

His tone grew pleading. "Nora, could you do me a favor and switch places with Jade? Her name is on the certificate. You don't have any legal standing, and to put it bluntly, you're the other woman interfering in their marriage..."

"You're still young, don't ruin your life over this. Besides, if anything happens to Hudson, Jade is the legal beneficiary. You'll end up with nothing..."

Hearing him drag Hudson into the conversation, Nora interrupted him coldly. "Marcus..."
