Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 38

Nora frowned slightly, unable to place the face.

But the woman marched right up to her, her eyes raking over Nora's dress with a calculating gleam.

"It really is you!" The woman flashed an overly bright smile. "It's been so long, I almost didn't recognize you. Don't tell me you forgot me? It's Seraphina..."

The memory finally clicked into place.

Seraphina Monroe.

A former college classmate. They had never gotten along, mostly due to Seraphina's petty jealousy and constant need to compete.

"Seraphina," Nora greeted her with a flat tone.

"Oh, you do remember!" Seraphina's smile widened, but her eyes were locked onto the Vera gown, burning with obvious envy.

"Are you... trying on wedding dresses? Getting married? I haven't heard a word about this. None of our classmates know!"

Nora let out a soft chuckle, easily sidestepping the bait. "Are you here for a fitting too? What a coincidence."

"It really is." Seraphina turned to the women trailing behind her. "Girls, this was our class president back in college. The star of the music department."

The women gave Nora a collective once-over, their expressions shifting.

"Oh, the class president. No wonder she looks familiar," one of them drawled. "So, where are you working these days?"

Nora's expression remained perfectly composed. "I'm currently looking for a job."

"Looking for a job?" Seraphina feigned shock before her smirk deepened. "Really? You were the untouchable prodigy back in school. Professor Thorne's golden girl. I assumed you'd be a massive success by now."

Her tone was utterly condescending.

Nora remained unbothered. "Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass."

Seraphina raised an eyebrow, her gaze falling back onto the extravagant wedding dress.

"This is a custom Vera piece, isn't it?" She sneered. "Tell me, who exactly is your sugar daddy? Why are you here alone? Where's the lucky groom?"

She looked around dramatically, her eyes finally landing on Arthur, who was walking briskly toward them.

Seeing his sharp, imposing features and impeccably tailored suit, she assumed he was someone important.

"Is this... your fiancé?"
