Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 403

For the past few days, Ginger had been walking on thin ice.

The day the amniocentesis results came out, she went to the hospital alone, terrified of bringing Silas with her.

On the way there, she clung to a desperate shred of hope, thinking maybe the ultrasound technician had made a mistake, or the machine had malfunctioned, or the baby was just in a weird position.

She even rehearsed how she was going to rip into that technician once she had the clear results in hand.

But the moment she received the report, the bold black letters printed across the page made her head explode.

[Fetal development has ceased. Immediate surgical removal recommended.]

Her baby was gone?!

Sitting on a bench in the hospital corridor, Ginger read the report three times, each read tearing her apart with agonizing despair.

She couldn't understand it. She hadn't done anything wrong. How could the pregnancy just fail?

Tears spilled over uncontrollably, splashing heavily against the paper in her trembling hands.

No.

No!

This was no time to cry.

She couldn't afford to panic right now!

She had to figure out a way to save herself!

The realization snapped Ginger back to cold clarity. She scrubbed the tears from her face, crumpled the report into a ball, and shoved it deep into her designer bag.

By the time she stepped out the main doors, the crisp autumn wind whipped down her collar, sending a violent shiver down her spine.

Standing on the steps and staring up at the bleak, gray sky, her mind was a chaotic mess.

She knew she couldn't hide this for long.

The doctor had been crystal clear. The fetus had stopped developing. It was dead tissue, and eventually, her body would expel it. The moment she started bleeding, the secret would be out.

So, she needed an ironclad strategy before that happened.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, Ginger hoisted her bag onto her shoulder and marched down the steps.

Her current elevated status in the Lancaster family was entirely dependent on the child in her womb.

Beatrice actually spoke to her warmly now. Before, the old woman wouldn't even look her in the eye. Now, she was constantly asking about her health and had even ordered Clement to drop off several boxes of premium luxury supplements.
