Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 46

Juliette's eyes lit up. She latched onto his arm, quickly going up on her tiptoes to plant a kiss on his cheek.

"Thanks, Edmond!"

Edmond's frown deepened. He was about to scold her when he suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure in his peripheral vision.

He froze dead in his tracks.

Nora?

Nora had just watched Arthur's car drive off. As she turned around, she instantly spotted two incredibly familiar figures.

And she had a front-row seat to Juliette kissing his cheek.

Hah.

Nora pulled her gaze away, expression totally blank, and headed for the building's entrance.

"Nora..."

Edmond instinctively lunged forward, blocking her path. "Why did you run off to San Francisco without saying a word? Do you have any idea how worried I've been these past few days? When did you become so unreasonable, Nora? You were never like this..."

His words spilled out in a rapid-fire lecture, his face twisted with visible frustration and impatience.

Nora simply stared at him in silence.

She had looked at this face for two years. She could trace his features with her eyes closed.

She used to think he was her destiny. She thought they would get married, build a home together, and grow old side by side.

Now, he felt like a total stranger.

"Edmond," Juliette said, suddenly appearing at his side and tugging his sleeve. "Why are you talking to her? It's not like she can hear you."

Edmond furrowed his brow.

He finally noticed that Nora wasn't wearing her hearing aids.

Pressing his lips together, he reluctantly raised his hands to start signing.

Juliette, who naturally didn't understand sign language, scoffed. She raked her eyes over Nora, her tone dripping with toxic sarcasm. "What kind of dramatic act is this, Nora?"

She laughed mockingly. "You get into a little fight with Edmond, and your first reaction is to run away from home?"

Seeing Nora remain silent, Juliette grew bolder.

Her smile widened maliciously.

"Edmond told me you've got intimacy anxiety. You haven't let him touch you in years. Men have needs, you know. Why do you think he stuck around? Because of that car accident I caused. He feels like he owes you. If anything, you should be thanking me, Nora!"
