"Jade, right?" She hastily put down her lipstick and flipped through her sign-in sheet. "HR is in room 1006. Go straight to the end of the hall and take a right."
"Thank you."
Nora turned and headed down the corridor.
Glass-walled cubicles lined the hallway, offering a clear view of the bustling staff inside.
"Did you hear? Director Sutton got fired yesterday!"
"Seriously? Isn't he one of Star's veterans? How did he just get fired like that?"
"Who knows? Word is the big boss ordered it personally. Zero mercy. HR issued the termination notice immediately, and they didn't even bother with a handover. They just told him to pack up and get out!"
"Damn... that's brutal. Who did Director Sutton piss off?"
"Your guess is as good as mine. The whole management team is saying the new boss is a heavyweight, and everyone needs to stay sharp so they don't end up on the chopping block."
Nora's footsteps faltered.
Director Sutton?
Seraphina's fiancé?
She thought back to the incident at the bridal boutique yesterday, a wild suspicion forming in her mind—but she quickly dismissed it.
How would Hudson even know who Harrison Sutton was?
And there was no way he would fire a director just because she caught some flak from some mean girls.
Nora shook her head, burying those ridiculous thoughts, and kept walking.
The door to room 1006 was slightly ajar, with murmurs of conversation spilling out.
Nora knocked.
"Come in."
Pushing the door open, she saw a woman in her thirties sitting at the desk. She had sharp, bobbed hair, professional makeup, and wire-rimmed glasses—it was the very woman who had interviewed her yesterday.
"Jade?" she asked, her gaze pausing on Nora before she snapped her folder shut. "Take a seat."
Nora sat down across from her.
"I'm the HR manager, Vivienne Monroe."
She pulled a contract from her drawer and slid it across the desk.
