Liam watched from the sidelines, clearly seeing something turn ice-cold in those deep, ink-black eyes.
"Got it," Hudson hung up the phone.
He stood, walked around the desk, and grabbed his coat from the rack.
Liam frowned. "Mr. Lancaster, are you going out?"
Hudson didn't answer.
Anxiety spiked in Liam's chest. Just as he was about to chase after him, Hudson abruptly stopped halfway to the door and turned back around. "Find me a therapist... The best one."
Relief washed over Liam's face. "Right away. I'll arrange it immediately, Mr. Lancaster, you..."
But before he could finish, Hudson waved him off without turning back. The heavy door clicked shut behind him.
Liam instinctively exhaled a breath of relief. Yet, before he could bask in the victory for more than a few seconds, a nagging realization hit him...
Wait a minute—
Did the boss ask for a therapist because of the intimacy anxiety he was just asking about?
...
Meanwhile, at the main entrance of Star Tower.
Edmond Sterling leaned against his car, a half-smoked cigarette pinched between his fingers. The ash had grown precariously long, but he hadn't flicked it away.
He had been waiting out here for nearly two hours.
Ferris Quinn rolled down the window and leaned out. "Edmond, why don't you wait in the car? Standing out in this blistering sun..."
"I'm fine," Edmond cut him off. He crushed the cigarette stub into the ashtray atop a nearby trash can, pulled out another one, and lit it.
His face was devoid of expression, but his jaw was locked tight.
The sting from Nora's slap still burned against his skin.
But the real pain wasn't on his face.
It was in his chest.
In his twenty-seven years of life, no one had ever slapped him.
Let alone a woman.
Edmond pressed his lips together, unable to swallow the suffocating lump lodged in his throat.
How dare she?
Just because Juliette had played a few harmless jokes?
