Still reeling from the mortification, Nora mumbled, "Whatever."
"Whatever it is, then," Hudson nodded solemnly. "I'll have the kitchen prepare a dish called 'Whatever'."
"...Lamb chops."
"Done."
...
Grant rode the elevator down from the Executive Suite and strolled over to Leo's practice room.
He pushed the door open to find Leo sitting on the couch, absentmindedly strumming a guitar, lost in a daze.
"Where is she? Hurry up and bring her out so I can see her," Grant said, leaning against the doorframe and popping the cigarette back between his lips.
"You got here fast," Leo chuckled bitterly, tossing the guitar aside. "Wait here, I'll go get her."
He stepped out and headed straight for the talent management bullpen.
Serena Sinclair was sitting at her desk, painting her nails. The moment she saw Leo walk in, her eyes lit up. She instantly sat up straight and shoved the nail polish into a drawer.
"Leo, who are you looking for?"
Leo ignored her, scanning the entire room.
She wasn't there.
He frowned. "Where's Jade Reed?"
Serena's smile froze for a split second, a flash of malicious jealousy darting through her eyes.
But she quickly masked it with a sycophantic grin. "She's not here, but if you need anything, you can just tell me. I'm much more..."
"None of your business," Leo snapped, cutting her off and turning to leave.
"Wait," Serena called out, her eyes darting calculatingly. "Um, earlier she mentioned a manager called her. Someone saw her heading up to the Executive Suite."
Leo stopped in his tracks. "The Executive Suite?"
Wasn't that Mr. Lancaster's private office?
The rest of the office exchanged knowing glances. Everyone knew exactly what Serena was trying to imply, throwing dirty water on Jade's name.
What right did a brand-new intern agent have to go up to a place like the Executive Suite?
