Gavin's eyes naturally fell upon the Woven Crimson Bracelet on Finnian's wrist.
For some reason, Hudson's cryptic words from yesterday flashed through his mind...
He had originally brushed them off as Hudson just running his mouth.
But looking at the situation now...
Hudson Lancaster never said anything without a reason.
He must have suspected something long before anyone else.
It made sense why Hudson had taken full control of his family's empire at eighteen and remained completely unchallenged for over a decade...
The man possessed a terrifying, almost demonic intellect.
Pushing the thought aside, Gavin pressed his lips together and asked, "Finnian, I heard you had a sketch artist draw a portrait of your sister when she was twelve, based on a pawnshop owner's description?"
Finnian's fingers stalled on his teacup. He looked up, his polite smile fading slightly. "Your intelligence network is as sharp as ever."
Gavin smiled, waving off the compliment. "In my line of work, if my information isn't sharp, I'm dead."
He set his teacup down, leaning forward slightly, crossing his fingers on the table. His tone slowed down, taking on a serious weight. "That sketch... would you mind showing it to me?"
Without hesitating, Finnian pulled out his phone, opened the photo of the charcoal sketch, and slid it across the table to Gavin.
Gavin picked up the phone.
It was a clean, sharp rendering of a young girl. Though her features hadn't fully matured, her bone structure was undeniably stunning.
The girl's head was slightly tilted, her lips curved into a subtle, almost invisible smile. Her eyes were bright and expressive.
And on her left cheek was a faint dimple—slightly deeper than the right side, almost unnoticeable if you weren't looking closely.
Gavin stared at the sketch for a long moment, his brow slowly furrowing.
He had seen photos of Evangeline.
Even though they were grainy surveillance shots taken by his operatives from a distance, he remembered her face perfectly.
The girl in the sketch shared a resemblance with Evangeline, but upon closer inspection, the discrepancies were glaring.
The girl in the drawing had larger eyes, turning up slightly at the corners, giving her a vibrant, spirited look.
Evangeline's eyes were smaller, the corners much flatter.
But more importantly—
The girl in the sketch had a left-cheek dimple. The current Evangeline did not.
Gavin placed the phone back on the table and looked Finnian dead in the eye. "Finnian, are you absolutely certain she's your sister? Did you run a DNA Paternity Test?"
Finnian frowned, clearly offended. "Of course we did. She left a DNA sample at the police station. We matched it with mine. The probability of biological relation was 99.9%."
"And later..."
After the dinner ended, Grant sat in his chair, his brain completely fried from the intense corporate espionage he had just witnessed. A moment later, Sebastian Caldwell slipped into the room.
"Hey, how'd it go? Did you hear anything good?"
Because Gavin was a powerful figure, Sebastian hadn't dared to plant bugs in the room—if he got caught, Gavin would probably have him locked up for a week.
When Grant just stared blankly ahead, Sebastian frowned and shoved his shoulder. "What are you zoning out for? Daddy's talking to you!"
Grant finally snapped out of his daze, entirely ignoring Sebastian's obnoxious joke.
"They were talking in code half the time. I barely understood a word..."
"What did they say?"
"Something about Felix Vaughn and Evangeline Fairchild... and some Ring Laser Gyro Technology..."
Sebastian: "?"
"Oh, wait!" Grant's eyes suddenly went wide as he remembered the most explosive part. "My brother told Finnian to run another DNA test! Holy shit, he thinks the current Evangeline is an imposter! This is massive! I have to tell Mr. Lancaster right now!"
He scrambled to pull out his phone, but Sebastian grabbed his wrist, slamming his hand onto the table. "Don't call him! You can't explain this properly over the phone. He's at the research institute right now, isn't he? We're going there. We're telling him face-to-face!"
"Good call. Let's go!"
