Edmond's voice was low and commanding. "Issue a public statement. Make it crystal clear that Starlight Media has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual assault. Emphasize that this was Caleb Miller's personal action and that the company will fully cooperate with the investigation."
Ferris nodded. "Understood, I'll get right on it."
As Ferris turned to leave, Edmond leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and blindly pinched the bridge of his nose.
Starlight was an absolute disaster.
Stock prices plummeted, investors were pulling out, and partners were tearing up contracts. Every time the phone rang, it was more bad news.
Since returning to the office that afternoon, he hadn't even had a sip of water.
Just then, the desk phone buzzed. It was a direct line from his secretary.
Edmond slammed his finger onto the speaker button. "What is it?"
"Edmond, the hospital just called. They said Ms. Reed left something behind at the Ear Rehabilitation Center. They couldn't reach her after multiple calls, so they contacted your number since you're listed as her emergency contact."
Edmond frowned. "You're bothering me with something this trivial?"
The young secretary was startled by his suddenly harsh tone and stammered, "The hospital said... they've been trying to call Ms. Reed for days and couldn't get through, so..."
"Enough."
Edmond cut her off, his voice cold and rigid. "Go to the hospital and pick it up."
"Yes, Edmond."
As the secretary was about to hang up, Edmond suddenly spoke again. "Wait."
"Yes, sir?"
"Did they say what she left behind?"
"The hospital said... it's a ring."
Edmond's fingers froze.
"What kind of ring?"
"They didn't give specifics..."
Edmond's grip on the phone tightened until his knuckles turned white.
A ring...
