Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 681

Matriarch Fairchild's brow furrowed slightly as her gaze shifted back to Liana.

Seeing the young woman's shoulders still trembling in utter devastation, the Matriarch's heart finally softened.

There was no solid proof that Liana was the mastermind behind this.

If they wrongfully accused her...

The Matriarch was getting old, and the emotional toll of the morning's drama was beginning to show in her exhausted eyes.

"Enough. Have our men track Lester down. Once we find him, everything will be clear."

Henry nodded immediately. "Don't worry, Mother. I'll personally oversee the search."

The Matriarch didn't say anything else. She simply nodded and allowed the maids to escort her upstairs.

The living room fell quiet once again.

Henry dropped his respectful facade. He turned to look at Liana, who was still slumped on the sofa. "Let's go. I'll drive you home."

Liana quickly wiped the tear tracks from her cheeks and obediently followed him out of the manor.

The luxury sedan cruised smoothly away from the Fairchild estate. The shadows of passing trees flickered across the windows, casting their faces in alternating light and dark.

Henry leaned back against the leather seat, his fingers tapping a slow, rhythmic beat against his knee. "Alright, out with it. What exactly happened? How did you get Evangeline's DNA sample? Do you know where she is?"

Liana shrank back into her seat, her fingers anxiously twisting the hem of her coat. She shook her head fiercely. "I... I really don't know..."

She looked up at him, her eyes still rimmed with red. "I was just... just worried that Finnian would misunderstand you."

Henry frowned. "Misunderstand me about what?"

Liana bit her lip, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Finnian keeps saying you're heartless. He said that once Evangeline's birthday passes, you're going to order him to stop looking for her... It broke my heart hearing him talk about you like that, so I came up with this plan... But I had no idea that woman would try to permanently steal Evangeline's identity and scheme to marry Jude..."

"I was out of options, so I had to take drastic measures."

Henry watched her sob uncontrollably. Finally, he reached out and patted the top of her head. "Alright, calm down. I'm not punishing you. I just needed to know the details..."

Liana's sobbing hitched. She looked up at him, tears pooling in her wide eyes.

Henry's voice turned cold. "The next time you pull a stunt like this, make sure you leave yourself an out. Never leave a paper trail. You got lucky this time because your grandmother is soft-hearted and didn't press the issue. If she seriously wanted to investigate, your sloppy little moves wouldn't hold up for a second."

Liana nodded vigorously. "Dad, I understand. I'll never do it again."

Henry gave a curt nod, his tone softening slightly. "I've already cleaned up your mess. I've disposed of the Imposter and Lester. No one will ever trace this back to you."

"Also, you can't walk around unprotected. I'll send a female bodyguard to your house tomorrow. Have her stay by your side at all times. It'll make things easier for you."

As for Nora...

She could forget about ever taking the title of Fairchild Heiress!

...

Meanwhile, after leaving the Fairchild Manor, Finnian drove straight to Jude's residence.

As soon as they sat down, Jude immediately asked, "What happened?"

Finnian gave him a brief, tense summary of the confrontation in the grand hall.

Jude frowned. "Do you believe what Henry said?"

Finnian let out a dark sneer. "He claimed Lester orchestrated this whole thing for money. But Macy's bank accounts haven't been touched, and Lester vanished into thin air. Does that sound like a shakedown to you?"

Jude's brow twitched. "You're certain it was Liana?"

"I don't suspect her. I know it was her."

Liana had every reason to stop Evangeline from returning.
