Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 727

Alastair scoffed loudly. "Child? He's a grown man in his thirties..."

Vivian slapped her husband's arm. "How old was he when it happened? What could he possibly have done about it? And do you really think he had the power to override his father's orders? He came all the way here to tell you the truth, and this is how you treat him?"

The hit knocked Alastair slightly off balance, deepening the scowl on his face. "When did I say I wasn't grateful? I just told him to pass a message to Henry!"

"Is that what you call passing a message? You stood there screaming at him for an hour!"

Vivian fired back without hesitation. "He hasn't even had a drop of water since he walked in. First you throw a cup at him, then you scream at him for an hour. Even if you're angry, let the boy catch his breath!"

The argument caught in Alastair's throat. He opened his mouth, found himself entirely incapable of refuting her logic, and finally let out a heavy grunt, turning his face away in stubborn defeat.

Seeing the old man finally subdued, Vivian waved Finnian over. "Come here, sweetie. Sit down, have some coffee. Wet your throat."

"Thank you, Grandma."

Watching Finnian cozy up to his wife thoroughly irritated Alastair.

And realistically, it wasn't entirely his fault—Finnian was a carbon copy of Henry Fairchild, while Nora inherited the striking features of Felix Vaughn. The bias was practically written in their DNA...

Vivian turned and gave a quiet order to a nearby maid. Moments later, the maid returned carrying a small velvet box, presenting it to Vivian with both hands.

Without opening it, Vivian pressed the box directly into Nora's hands and patted her softly. "Since it's our first time meeting, Grandma didn't have time to prepare a proper welcome gift. Take this card. There are hundreds of millions of dollars in the account. Just use it for pocket money. Let me know when it runs out."

Nora stared at the velvet box, her brain temporarily short-circuiting.

Hundreds of millions of dollars.

Pocket money...

It wasn't that she hadn't seen that kind of wealth before—the limitless card Hudson gave her had astronomical limits.

But casually tossing around millions under the banner of 'pocket money'...

She finally understood where Vincent and Phoebe got their staggeringly excessive old-money habits.

"...Grandma, this is too much."

"Nonsense," Vivian waved her off. "You are Felix's child. Spoiling you is exactly what I'm supposed to do. Take it. Grandma will have a new allowance deposited into your account every month. Don't bother trying to save it."

Nora held the velvet box, her thumb tracing the soft fabric. A profound warmth flooded her chest.
