Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 729

Phoebe shot him a look of absolute disgust. "Shut up! You're embarrassing yourself!"

"How am I embarrassing myself?! Look at the army you have standing at the front gates! There isn't even room to walk! If anyone needs to share bodyguards, it's you!"

Without even turning around, Phoebe grabbed an orange from the table and hurled it directly at his head.

Vincent violently twisted sideways, dodging it by an inch. The orange slammed into the antique cabinet behind him, bounced twice, and rolled across the floor.

Vivian finally reached her breaking point. She slammed her hand on the table. "If you two don't stop right now, I'm throwing both of you out into the snow!"

The threat worked instantly. Vincent shrank into his chair, avoiding eye contact while sipping his coffee, while Phoebe quietly walked over, picked up the bruised orange, wiped the dust off it, and started peeling it in silence.

Peace finally returned to the main hall.

From his solitary confinement in the corner armchair, Finnian watched Vivian affectionately doting on Nora, completely relieved by the chaos Vincent and Phoebe had caused. The massive weight on his chest finally began to lift.

It didn't matter if everyone ignored him...

At least no one was throwing porcelain cups at his head anymore.

...

Meanwhile, in Northampton.

Sitting behind his massive desk at the Fairchild Corporation headquarters, Henry was flipping through a stack of contracts when his right eyelid violently twitched.

He set his pen down, closed his eyes, and pressed his fingers firmly against his temple.

An old superstition nagged at him—left eye twitches for wealth, right eye for disaster.

The relentless spasm was making him incredibly anxious. Giving up on the paperwork, he pushed the files aside and took a heavy gulp from the coffee cup on his desk.

The coffee had gone entirely cold, leaving a bitter, acidic taste in his mouth. He grimaced and was just about to hit the intercom for his secretary when a soft double-knock echoed from the door.

"Come in."

The secretary stepped into the office, clutching a tablet with a tight, uncomfortable expression. "Mr. Fairchild, we just received word from San Francisco... Mr. Lancaster and Ms. Fairchild didn't return home this morning. Their flight was diverted directly to Chicago."

Henry's hand froze halfway back to his cup. "Chicago?"

"Yes, sir," the secretary replied cautiously. "And... Finnian went with them."

Henry slowly lowered his hand, his thumb tracing the rim of the cold cup.

Chicago...

Vaughn territory.

He wasn't entirely surprised that Hudson took Nora there. The man was a master strategist, always ten steps ahead. Given that Vanguard Microchips and the Vaughns' tech empire were currently dominating the industry, it made sense they might be discussing a merger or a partnership.

But why did Finnian go with them?

Unless...

Henry's stomach dropped like a stone, a suffocating sense of dread washing over him.
