Henry Fairchild gripped his dead phone, his expression darkening like a thundercloud.
He had thought this secret could be buried for a lifetime. He never expected the Vaughn Family to find out.
He knew better than anyone how explosive Alastair Vaughn's temper could be.
Years ago, when Eliza first brought him to the Vaughn estate, he hadn't even been offered a glass of water before Alastair chased him out with a broom, threatening to break his legs if he ever came near Eliza again.
Now, if Alastair found out that Eliza had not only secretly married him but also borne him a son and a daughter, the old man would absolutely kill him!
He would have to be insane to go to Chicago.
He knew how volatile Alastair's temper was.
But if he didn't go, Alastair would likely come all the way to Northampton to demand justice personally.
The more Henry thought about it, the more his head pounded. He tossed his phone onto the desk, out of sight, out of mind.
...
Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the Vaughn residence remained incredibly warm and harmonious.
However, Alastair and Vivian Vaughn were getting on in years. After lunch, their energy waned. They reluctantly held Nora's hands, chatting affectionately for quite a while before the staff finally helped them upstairs to rest.
"Hey, where's the welcome gift you prepared for her?" Phoebe crossed her legs and shot Vincent a sideways glance.
Vincent scoffed. "Mind your own business. I've already taken care of it..."
Just as Phoebe opened her mouth to retort, Vincent's phone buzzed. He glanced at the message, a wide grin spreading across his face. He immediately looked up at Nora. "Nora, I registered a music company in San Francisco earlier this year. I just had my people transfer it to your name."
Nora quickly waved her hands. "Vincent, you really didn't have to go through all that trouble..."
Vincent rolled his eyes at Phoebe. "Take it! I refuse to be outdone by certain people!"
"Psh!" Phoebe scoffed, rolling her eyes with absolutely zero elegance.
Seeing the two of them at each other's throats again, Nora couldn't help but laugh helplessly. Just as she was about to intervene, Soren appeared soundlessly by her side.
He leaned down, his voice lowered so only the two of them could hear. "Ms. Reed, the matter you asked me to look into... I have a lead."
The smile on Nora's face faltered slightly. She immediately turned to look at Hudson.
"Is there news about the Ivory Pill?" she asked urgently.
Soren nodded expressionlessly. "The Whitman Family indeed possessed two Ivory Pills back in the day. One remained with the Whitmans, and the other... was given to the Sawyers."
Beside them, Hudson raised an eyebrow. "The Sawyers?"
Soren nodded. "Yes. The Sawyer Family in Chicago."
Nora instinctively looked at Hudson, her eyes lighting up with eagerness. "Should we make a trip to the Sawyer estate?"
