Nora froze completely, the ringing in her ears so loud she could barely comprehend what she had just heard.
"What... what did you say?"
Elias's tone was leisurely. "I have an Ivory Pill in my possession."
Nora's breathing turned erratic. "But you said the pill was already..."
"I lied to Jude..."
Elias said casually. "That boy is too honest; he believes whatever I tell him. I'm getting old. Is it really a crime to keep a lifesaver hidden for myself?"
Nora's throat constricted, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
"Are... are you saying The Ivory Pill is still with the Winslow family?"
"It is." Elias paused. "But I'm not handing it over for free."
Nora's lips parted; she could already guess where this was going.
Gripping her phone tightly, she desperately tried to negotiate. "What do you want, Mr. Winslow? I can give you money, resources, connections, technology... whatever you ask for. Name your price..."
"I don't lack anything." Elias cut her off, his voice maintaining its slow, deliberate cadence. "At my age, I have all the wealth, power, and prestige a man could want. I only want to use this pill to buy Jude an opportunity."
His tone darkened. "You divorce Hudson, honor the arrangement between our two families, and marry Jude. That is the only condition I will accept."
"Mr. Winslow, I will never divorce Hudson," Nora stated with absolute finality.
Elias was unbothered. "Child, I am not forcing you. The choice is entirely yours..."
He paused briefly. "If you agree, the pill is yours. If you refuse, pretend we never had this conversation. Like I said, I'm an old man, and I need this pill to preserve my own life..."
Nora frowned, her mind racing with thoughts of stealing the pill, by force or strategy, when Elias spoke again, his voice dropping into a warning.
"And let's be clear from the start. Don't even think about trying to steal it from me. The Winslow family may keep a low profile, but we are still one of the four great houses of Northampton. I have my own intelligence network. If I catch wind that you've told Hudson or Jude about this conversation, I will swallow the pill immediately."
Nora pressed her lips together. Elias had dominated the corporate world for decades; he was a cunning old fox who had easily anticipated her every thought.
"...Alright. Let me think about it."
Elias's tone softened. "Good. Call me when you've made up your mind."
He ended the call before she could reply.
The dial tone echoed in her ear. Nora stood frozen, clutching her phone.
Elias's terms had cornered her completely.
She only had two choices.
Agree to his terms...
