Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 779

In that split second, Hudson didn't even hesitate. His leg lashed out, planting a brutal kick squarely into Jasper's abdomen.

Jasper never anticipated Hudson being that fast. With a muffled groan, he was launched backward, his lower back slamming into the stone railing of the flowerbed. He flipped over the edge, crashing into the dirt along with the basin of water.

The basin, which had been gathering freezing water for over half an hour, came crashing down on his head, soaking him completely. His massive frame crushed several expensive, newly budding camellias. Covered in crushed leaves, freezing water, and wet mud, he looked exactly like a drowned rat fished straight out of a swamp.

"You motherf—" Jasper braced his hands against the stone railing, trying to force himself up, but his foot slipped in the mud and he collapsed right back into the dirt.

The next second, a solid stone stool hurtled through the air and smashed into the ground inches from his side. A spray of thick mud flew directly into his face and mouth. He didn't even have time to spit the grit out, staring up at Hudson in absolute, unadulterated terror.

—It missed by an inch!

If that stone stool had hit him, he would be a dead man right now!

Jasper was just a pampered young master of the Fairchild Family. He had never been subjected to this level of lethal, unapologetic violence.

"If another filthy word comes out of your mouth, the next stool is going through your skull," Hudson said, his eyes narrowing, his voice a quiet, terrifying promise.

Jasper's face was ashen. His chest heaved violently, the veins in his forehead throbbing.

He wanted to curse, but the blinding pain radiating from his lower back, combined with the coppery taste of blood rising in his throat, forced him into a violent coughing fit.

More importantly, the absolute murder in Hudson's eyes was so paralyzing that Jasper physically couldn't bring himself to look the man in the face.

The commotion in the courtyard was deafening. The maids in the corridor exchanged terrified glances, and one of them was already sprinting toward the grand hall to sound the alarm.

By the time Matriarch Fairchild arrived, leaning heavily on her cane with the maids supporting her, she found Jasper sitting in the ruined flowerbed, looking utterly pathetic. Meanwhile, Hudson was leisurely pulling a mint from his pocket, unwrapping it, and feeding it to Nora.

"Here, honey. To calm your nerves."

"..."

Nora's nerves were perfectly fine, but she dutifully opened her mouth and took the candy.

The Matriarch stared at the decimated flowerbed, then looked at Jasper's humiliating state. Her face darkened instantly. "What is the meaning of this?!"

"Grandmother!" Jasper finally found his voice. He braced himself against the stone railing and staggered to his feet. His soaked overcoat clung to his body, dripping steadily into the mud. He pointed a shaking finger at Hudson. "He kicked me!"

Hudson lazily raised an eyebrow, meeting Jasper's furious, bloodshot eyes. "You tried to throw water on my wife first."

"I was throwing it at you!"

Hudson crossed his arms, looking completely unfazed. "If you had clarified you weren't aiming at my wife, I wouldn't have had to kick you so hard."

"!!!"

Did he have time to clarify anything?!

And besides...

Was there even a difference between throwing it at him and throwing it at Nora?
