Nora snapped her head forward and picked up the pace.

"Jade, are you okay?" Chloe asked, deeply concerned. "Your hands are freezing."

Nora managed a weak smile. "I'm fine."

"Who was that creep? Walking up to random women in the lobby." Chloe muttered in annoyance. "Calling you Eleanor. Couldn't even get your name right, and he has the nerve to claim he's an old classmate."

Nora didn't reply.

She lowered her eyes, forcing down the violent storm of emotions threatening to break the surface.

Eleanor Vance.

She hadn't heard that name in over a decade.

Ever since she fled Northampton for San Francisco all those years ago, she had never used it again.

Back in the lobby, the man was still standing where they left him, staring in the direction Nora had disappeared.

"Weird..." he mumbled to himself. "That's definitely Eleanor. Why the hell is she pretending not to know me?"

"Excuse me?"

A voice rang out from behind him, and he spun around.

Serena was standing there, flashing a perfectly manufactured smile. "I work with the girl you were just talking to. I heard you call her... Eleanor?"

She blinked, doing her best to look innocently curious. "You know her?"

The guy hesitated, unsure of who Serena was, and let out an awkward laugh. "I might have just recognized the wrong person..."

"How could you be wrong?" Serena's smile grew even wider. "You two went to school together, right? What was her real name?"

Taking in Serena's gorgeous face, the guy licked his lips and immediately puffed out his chest. "Her name is Eleanor Vance. We went to middle school together. Same homeroom."

"Eleanor Vance..." Serena repeated, a dangerous gleam flashing in her eyes.
