She shot him a fierce, covert glare, only to find him already watching her. Their eyes locked across the table.
Hudson offered a slow, devastating smile. He casually picked up his water glass, taking a deliberate sip. The strong line of his throat bobbed with the swallow, exuding a rough, careless masculinity that made Nora's pulse spike.
Caught staring, a furious blush crept up Nora's neck, settling hotly on the tips of her ears as she quickly looked away.
Leaning back in his chair, Hudson toyed with his phone, his gaze mapping the soft curves of Nora's silhouette. She wore a simple cream cardigan that draped elegantly off her shoulders, exposing the delicate line of her collarbone. Her hair was pulled back into a low ponytail, with a few stray wisps framing her flushed face.
She was terrified.
Hudson's smile deepened. How fascinating. She was legally Mrs. Lancaster, yet she was acting like they were engaging in some illicit, scandalous affair.
"I just dropped by to check on the setup," Hudson said, his voice a low drawl that cut through the silence. "Your sound system is outdated. I'll have a new one sent over."
Leo blinked, utterly bewildered. Since when did the ruthless billionaire care about studio equipment?
"Uh, thank you, Mr. Lancaster," Leo stammered, his suspicion skyrocketing. There was no such thing as a free lunch, especially not from Hudson Lancaster. Was he actually making a move on Gavin's girl?
Gritting his teeth, Leo decided to play his only trump card. "Mr. Lancaster, my brother has been stationed at the base for a while now. It's been a long time since you've seen Gavin, right?" He emphasized his brother's name heavily, hoping the reminder of their friendship would back Hudson off.
Hudson barely reacted. "Gavin? He just made Major last month. He's far too busy to visit San Francisco."
"Yeah, my brother is a total workaholic," Leo pushed on, his voice slightly desperate. "But he mentioned he's taking a leave soon. Said he's going to bring his girlfriend back to meet everyone..."
Leo watched Hudson like a hawk, waiting for a flicker of guilt or realization.
Instead, Hudson's expression remained entirely blank.
