Night fell.
Skystone Manor.
Dr. Silas Vane walked out of the kitchen holding a freshly brewed bowl of medicine. The dark liquid shimmered, radiating a steam that carried a tongue-numbing, bitter scent.
"The medicine is ready. Drink it while it's hot."
Hudson's gaze landed on the bowl sitting on the coffee table. He frowned slightly.
"Can't you ease up on the Bitter Coptis?"
Dr. Vane stroked his beard, glaring. "Ease up on the Bitter Coptis? How else do you expect to flush out the toxins?"
He scoffed loudly. "It's only because you're built like a tank that the poison hasn't completely destroyed your body yet. Anyone else would have been bedridden centuries ago! You might have an incredible constitution, but you can't be reckless. Detoxification is a slow process. We have to clear it out bit by bit. You can't rush it."
He paused and added, "You have to drink this for a month. If you refuse because of the taste, then you can just wait for a relapse."
Hudson's frown deepened.
He wasn't trying to be difficult. His pain tolerance was exceptionally high, but the concoction was ungodly bitter.
Every time he drank it, he wanted to cut off his own tongue.
Just then, Nora walked out of the kitchen with a plate of fruit. Seeing Hudson's miserable expression, she couldn't help but smile.
"Do you really need to be coaxed to take your medicine?"
Seeing Nora, Dr. Vane immediately pointed at the bowl. "Nora, I'm leaving this to you. Make sure he drinks every last drop."
Before she could even reply, he dashed off, clearly unwilling to stick around and play nurse.
"Come on, drink up."
