"You're absolutely right!"
"Hehe, I'm just speaking the truth, Dad. As long as you're not angry anymore."
"I'm not angry anymore, sweetheart."
After chatting for a few more minutes, Henry finally ended the call.
He leaned back against the sofa, his eyes sweeping over the shattered glass scattered across the living room floor. A dark, calculating chill settled in his gaze.
He couldn't hand the Fairchild empire over to Finnian. Not anymore.
How could a son who actively worked against him be trusted to carry the family legacy?
He was only in his fifties. He was healthy, sharp, and at the absolute peak of his power.
Old Mr. Winslow was in his nineties and still running his family. Why should Henry surrender his throne now?
He needed another son.
He needed a blank slate—an heir he could mold from day one, raised strictly by his side. Someone absolutely loyal, who would never dare betray his own blood.
The moment the idea took root, it spread like wildfire. The more he thought about it, the more brilliant it seemed.
Crushing his cigarette in the ashtray, he stood up, straightened his lapels, and walked out the door.
...
Meanwhile, after hanging up, Liana took her cab straight back to Fairchild Manor.
"Grandma! Grandma!"
Before Liana could make it past the foyer, Martha Quinn rushed out of nowhere, her face lighting up with absolute joy. "Miss Liana, you're back!"
Seeing Martha, Liana casually shoved all her shopping bags into the woman's arms and glanced around. "Where's Grandma?"
"The Dowager went out with some friends..."
"Oh."
Liana pouted. She had bought a mountain of luxury goods from Australia, all charged to Henry's black card. She had planned to use the gifts to score some major points with the Matriarch, but now she had to wait.
"Martha, take these upstairs and put them away carefully."
"Right away, Miss Liana."
Martha beamed, happily hauling the heavy bags. After meticulously organizing everything, she hurried back to Liana's side. "Have you eaten lunch yet, Miss Liana? Shall I make you something?"
Liana nodded quickly. "Yeah, make it fast. I'm starving. The airplane food was revolting."
