Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 129

-Beckett-

Twelve hours. That’s how long Andi’s been missing. Every minute feels like a lifetime. We turned the rental house near Andi’s residence into our command center for now. Reed was on the computer, dissecting the photo sent to us by her abductor.

I pace the length of the living room. I need to do something before I break every piece of furniture in this house. Time wasn’t in our favor. The longer we wait for whoever took Andi, the harder it will be for us to find her.

This isn’t Al,Reed murmured from the dining table where he was working on two laptops. One was rapidly searching for the location of the unknown number, and the other was on a program with a photo of Andi’s car sent by the kidnapper.

We already know they have her car. What we need to find out is where they took her.My hands trembled, and as frustration soared through my veins, that familiar tightening on my left shoulder throbbed. It had been a long time since the last time I felt my TOS flaring. Even in our games, I had been pitching well.

I rolled it and willed it to go away. I don’t need this added to the list of things I need to worry about right now.

No one in this room was at fault. They were only following my orders. If there were someone here who should take the blame, it’s me. Cole was right. I should have been more careful, more vigilant. Then maybe we won’t be dealing with Andi’s kidnapping.

Based on the photo and message alone, we won’t be able to pinpoint where she is exactly,Dean murmured, his voice merely narrating facts that we already know.

I don’t need you to tell me what we already know, Dean!I snapped. Tell me something I don’t know.

Dean and Reed pursed their lips, lowering their heads. Reed’s hands were clenched on top of the keyboard, while Dean was looking at his partner with concern. Cole rose from his seat, threw an arm around my neck, and dragged me towards the nearest room in the house.

The furniture inside was still covered with white sheets, and dust particles swirled up as we walked further into the room.

Calm the fuck down, Beckett,Cole gritted, pushing me like a rag doll on the corner of the room. I wasn’t that easy to be pushed around. I was a big guy, yet Cole managed to do so like he always did when we were little.

Calm down? How can I calm down, Cole!I snapped. Andi is missing, and here we are sitting around doing nothing to find her.

Cole sighed and crossed his arms in the middle. Your lack of temper, does it help us find Andi?He spoke like a big brother to his stubborn younger brother.

I couldn’t answer because I knew Cole was right, and he was making a point here.

Go and talk to Andi’s mom,he murmured. She’s been calling me, and you’re the one who can calm her down.

Are you messing with me? How can I calm her down when I’m a mess myself?I groaned. Talking to Julie doesn’t sit well with me. I fear she will be blamed for what is happening to Andi.

NahYou’re just scared she would blame you,Cole scoffed, reading my mind. Well, you are to be blamed, so go and talk to her and tell her to stop blowing up my phone! He spun on his heel and walked out of the room, slamming the door

behind him.

Once I was alone with my thoughts, the silence became deafening. And the thoughts in my head became too loud to bear. I

don’t want to think about how Andi’s doing right now, how her abductors are treating her. She must have been so damn scared no one would find her.

I dragged my feet toward the door and pulled it open. Cole was just sliding his gun into the holster, and Reed and Dean were doing the same. They were preparing to fight, and I wasn’t informed that we were already making a move.

Where are you going?I asked.

We’ll go to the address on the message, Cole murmured. I’d rather walk into an ambush than see you lose your shit like a pussy.

It’s a trap; everyone inside this room knows that, especially these three. This isn’t their first rodeo in a kidnapping, and sometimes they are the abductor, so they know the basics. Going into that location would be pointless, and it could be suicide.

I’m going-I said, but Cole cut me off.

No,he stated firmly, calling the shots. I’ve already given you your assignment. We don’t need you to lose your mind with whatever it is we’re going to find inside Andi’s car.

Since when are you in charge?I ranted, annoyed that he was telling me when I should and shouldn’t do things, as if I were a child.

Since you’re too close to Andi,Cole says, lifting his feet onto the seat and stashing a pocketknife in his boots.

Reed slid his laptop into his bag while Dean grabbed the duffel bag of ammunition. The two walked out of the house, leaving Cole and me alone.

Look, Beckett,Cole put on his jacket, concealing the guns in his holsters. I know you’re worried about Andi, and you want to find her ASAP, but you have to start thinking straight and not act on impulse. That temper will get people killed, you know that.

I straightened my shoulder and swallowed the lecture he was giving me.

You care for her, I get that, and once I see that your head is in the game, I will let you in on our plans, okay?

I nodded, understanding when to step back from the game, because as Cole said, I might be the reason things go south.

You have a plan?I probed.

He smirked. Always do. I will call you as soon as we find something useful on the site.”

All I could do was watch them leave while Luna and Jack stayed behind with me. The two had been outside the whole time; they were clueless about what transpired inside the house. They were confused about why we were left behind, but, like the good soldiers they were, they didn’t ask questions and just followed orders.

I took three deep breaths before knocking on Andi’s house. I hear the rushed, soft footsteps behind it before the door creaks

open.

Julie looked as if she hadn’t slept for days; worry wrinkled her forehead, and I hesitated in greeting her. Her lips trembled as those blue eyes gazed at me with a whirlwind of emotions.

*1-I murmured, the words dying down in my throat when Julie wrapped her frail arms around me.

I’m glad you came home, Beckett, she snittled into my chest, her entire frame shaking with fear and worry. She pulled
