Maid For Beckett Catching The Baseball Legend’s Heart novel Chapter 172

Chapter 172

-Andi-

Carter wasn’t wasting any second. The moment he saw me walking in his direction, he walked forward, meeting me in the middle as though he couldn’t wait to get his hands on me.

What do you want?I grunted, his fingers digging into my arm as he whisked me away with him, far from Lila.

What do I want?Carter grunted, huffing. He gave my arm a loaded tug that I almost tripped on my own feet. Are you seriously asking me that?

We reached the pillar where he was lurking earlier, then walked past the guy in a black shirt. I feel his friend trailing behind us as Carter dragged me towards the hallway.

He was in a hurry, and when I slid my gaze on him, I came face to face with a really bothered Carter. And the Carter I knew never looked this messy. He was always composed, prim, and wellgroomed. Now, he’s wearing a weekold stubble, his eyes are circled with dark bags, his skin looks dry, and his lips are chapped.

What happened to you?I blurted out, my eyebrows knitting together.

He slammed me against the wall of the hallway so abruptly that we gathered the attention of a few onlookers. Carter’s friend stood behind him, shielding him from being recognized. The shadow of Carter’s hood cast darkness in his already bleak blue eyes.

Now that we are face to face, I reckoned that he had aged abruptly from the last time I saw him, and his eyes were stabbing me with daggered glare.

You did this to me, you and your boyfriend,he spat.

I glowered at him. What the hell are you talking about?

Cut the act, Andi,he said, gritting his teeth. He stepped away from me, looking down at me through his shadowed face. It wasn’t enough that you ruined me. Your boyfriend ruined my future!

I shoved him in the chest, matching his heated gaze. I don’t know what you’re talking about, Carter. You should be the one who’s cutting the act. Is this another one of your schemes?!I can’t stop my voice from rising. How dare he accuse me of doing something like that?

We should take this somewhere else, boss, the muscle in the black shirt stood a few feet behind him, arms crossed, eyes tracking the mallgoers who were growing curious about what was happening here.

Carter didn’t say another word. He once again grabbed my arm and tugged me with him like a rag

doll

His friend pushed the door to the stairs with a sweat, holding it open for Carter to drag me with him. The mall’s noise simmered down as the door closed, and the echo of my heartbeat grew deafening.

Carter’s friend stayed behind, leaving Carter and me alone on the dusty and humid stairway.

I wiggled from Carter’s grip, hissing at him as I crossed my arms over my middle. What’s going on?

He pushed the hood off his head, looking at me pointedly with his bleak eyes. I’m here to ask you the same thing. What the hell is going on, Andi?

What?I scowled.

Don’t act oblivious. I know you are behind Beckett’s attack on me,he spat, throwing that accusation into my face. It wasn’t enough that he humiliated me. He made sure no team would sign me!

Chapter 172

I recoiled, surprised at his sudden outburst. And everything he said doesn’t make sense. Sure, I don’t follow his career anymore. I refrained from watching the news about him, but what the hell is he talking about?

You signed an NDA,he reminded me, stepping back so he could look at me from head to foot. I can put you behind bars for breaching that agreement.

“I haven’t told anyone about us, Carter,” I cleared out. If there was someone who leaked information about us, it was you. You did that when you confronted me at the shop and at the stadium.”

Maybe I shouldn’t have laid that out for him. It just fueled his anger. He removed the distance between us and shoved me against the door. You don’t understand how this was happening, do you? Your boyfriend is a fucking cheat! He used his connection to ruin my career, and youHe pulled a heavy breath. You didn’t heed my warning. You kept coming back to that fucker even if you know you don’t belong together!

He tilted his head, and a slow, menacing smile spread across his face the one I used to think was charming. Now it just looked like what it was. And you will make him fix this, right fucking now.

He pulled out his phone and lifted his hand I flinched, bracing for the hit. But it never came. Instead, the soft click of a camera shutter cut through the silence. I blinked, confused, my arm still raised in front of my face as he took another shot. And another. I slowly lowered my arm, staring at him, my heart hammering against my ribs. Why was he taking pictures of

me?

What are you doing?I breathed, more bewildered than angry. Then the anger fired up. What the hell is wrong with you?!But he wasn’t listening. He was already typing on his phone, his thumbs moving fast over the screen, sending the photos to someone, as those bleak eyes slightly lit up for the first time.

What I should have done in the first place! I’m handling things myself,he mumbled as he shoved his phone in his pocket. He grabbed my arm again, and this time, he dragged me down the stairs towards the basement parking of the mall.

All the while he was manhandling me, I was screaming at him to let me go, trying to break free, but to no avail. He was too strong, and he didn’t even break a sweat as he dragged me towards his car.
