1 let out a scoff before folding my arms tightly across my chest and staring at Ryder suspiciously. At this point, I genuinely did not know what to expect from any of these men anymore, and after spending an entire day dealing with Theo’s nonstop flirting and shameless confidence, my patience was already hanging by a thread.

“Did you and Theo plan this or something?” I asked flatly while narrowing my eyes at him. “Like, did you both agree that Theo would take the day shift while you tried your luck for a night shift?”

Ryder blinked at me in complete confusion like he genuinely had no idea what I was talking about. “What?” he asked slowly before letting out a small laugh. “What does me wanting to take you back to your dorm have to do with Theo?”

The confusion in his voice sounded completely real, and I frowned slightly as I stared at him harder. Unlike Theo, who usually looked amused even when lying straight to my face, Ryder looked honestly lost right now. Still, I was not about to trust these people so easily anymore.

‘How are you even here this late on a Saturday?” I asked suspiciously. “And don’t try telling me you just magically ran into me by coincidence because I’m definitely not buying that.”

Ryder sighed softly before rubbing the back of his neck. “It actually was a coincidence,” he started explaining calmly. “I was…”

Before he could finish speaking though, another voice suddenly interrupted him from the car.

Ryder!”

I immediately looked toward the car in surprise, and the moment I saw a girl stepping out from the passenger side. Something unpleasant twisted sharply inside my chest.

The girl was pretty, like very pretty. Insanely pretty. She had long, dark hair, smooth-looking skin, and the kind of face that

robably made people turn around twice to stare at her. Even worse, she looked comfortable around Ryder, like she was used to being around him. She walked toward the side of the car before leaning slightly against it while looking at Ryder mpatiently.

Hurry up,” she complained lightly. “I’m running late.”

For a second, I completely forgot how to breathe properly. The ugly feeling that suddenly rose inside me caught me so off guard that I almost felt embarrassed by it immediately. My stomach twisted painfully, and before I could stop myself, the very first thought that entered my head was that she had to be one of Ryder’s girlfriends.

The thought made me feel sick instantly, which was ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

(

I had no right whatsoever to feel jealous over Ryder Graves having another girl in his car. Ryder was attractive, popular, and literally worshipped by half the female population on campus. Of course he had girls around him. Why wouldn’t he? The stupid part was that despite knowing all of that logically, the sight still made something burn unpleasantly inside my chest.

Moon reacted even worse than I did. “Who is she?” she growled immediately inside my head. “Why is she in our mate’s car

I mentally groaned in frustration. “Can you not start?” I snapped at her internally.

Moon ignored me completely. “She looks annoying,” she complained bitterly. “Tell her to stay away from him, or I will.”

I almost choked internally at that suggestion.

Absolutely not

There was no universe in which I was marching over there and acting territorial over Ryder like some insane jealous girlfriend. I would genuinely ather throw myself into traffic. Hoping desperately that my face was not giving away what I was feeling. I forced myself to look back at Ryder instead of the girl.

“You shouldn’t delay your girlfriend,” I said as casually as I could manage, though my voice came out tighter than I intended. “I can get back to the dorm on my own, so I don’t need your help.”

The second the word girlfriend left my mouth, Ryder frowned immediately. “She’s not my…”

I did not even let him finish. Immediately, I turned around and started walking away before he could explain anything else because honestly, I did not want to hear it. I did not understand why I felt so irritated all of a sudden, and I especially did not understand why my chest still felt tight and uncomfortable.

I had barely taken a few steps when suddenly, fingers wrapped around my arm gently. “Luna, wait.”

I stopped walking instantly and looked down at Ryder’s hand on my arm before slowly looking back at him.

Ryder looked confused more than anything else, and somehow, that only annoyed me further. “I’m going into campus anyway,” he explained patiently. “It won’t cost me anything to just drop you off.”

Unable to help myself, I scoffed softly and pulled my arm slightly. “Just go your way,” I told him quickly. “I need the exercise anyway, so I’ll walk.”

Ryder’s brows furrowed slightly as he looked down at me carefully, almost like he was trying to figure out why I suddenly seemed upset.

“You sure?” he asked quietly.

“Yes,” I responded immediately.

For a brief second, neither of us spoke.

The silence felt strangely tense, and I hated how aware I suddenly was of how close he was standing to me. Ryder was strangely calmer than I expected because despite my obvious irritation, he was not pushing or teasing me the way Theo probably would have. He just looked at me with confusion, and honestly, that somehow made things worse.

Behind him, the girl near the car sighed loudly. “Ryder,” she called again impatiently.

The sound instantly reignited the ugly jealousy inside me.

Moon practically snarled in my head. “She’s annoying,” she muttered angrily. “Tell her he’s ours. She should piss off!”

“Please shut up. Don’t embarrass me with your jealousy,” I begged internally.

“You’re jealous too,” Moon said smugly.

“I am not.”

“You absolutely are.”

I tightened my jaw immediately because unfortunately, she was right, and I hated it. I hated how much the sight of another girl near Ryder bothered me. I hated how my chest burned every time she called his name, and most of all, I hated that I cared at all.

Determined to escape the situation before my emotions became even more embarrassing, I firmly pulled my arm away

From Ryiler’s grasp. “I’m leaving.” I said quickly before he could stop me again.

Then without waiting for a response. I turned around and started walking away as fast as I could.

I could practically feel Ryder staring after me, but I refused to turn back around no matter how badly I could feel Moon wanting me to. My heart was beating far too fast, and the stupid jealousy still sat heavily inside my chest no matter how much I tried convincing myself that I was being irrational.

“You should’ve bitten her,” Moon grumbled bitterly

I nearly stumbled while walking. “What is wrong with you?” I hissed internally.
