Marked by the Alpha Team (Luna Merrick) novel Chapter 62

Luna’s POV

I watched as Jace stepped into the room again, carrying another tray of food like it was the most normal thing in the world, and even though I had already seen him do it earlier, it still didn’t sit right with me. There was just something about him that didn’t match this image at all. He looked too serious, too controlled, too distant to be walking around serving food like some kind of personal chef, especially food that he had made himself. It made me stare longer than I should have, trying to understand how someone like him could be the same person who had bossily told me I couldn’t leave this house earlier.

Ivy, on the other hand, didn’t seem bothered at all. In fact, she looked like she was having the time of her life. The moment Jace placed the tray on the table, her face lit up, and she leaned forward like she had been waiting for it. Thank you,she said quickly, her voice full of excitement, not even trying to hide how happy she was.

Jace gave a short nod in response, his expression unchanged, like her reaction didn’t affect him at all. He didn’t smile, didn’t linger, didn’t say anything else. He just turned slightly, clearly about to leave again like he had done earlier, like bringing food was all he was here to do, and for some reason, that didn’t sit well with me.

Before I could think it through properly, I found myself reaching out and grabbing his arm gently. My fingers wrapped around his sleeve, and the moment I touched him, I felt how tense he was, like he wasn’t used to being stopped or touched like that. For a second, I almost let go, but I forced myself to keep my hand there.

Can we talk?I asked, my voice quieter than I expected, but steady enough that he could hear me clearly.

He stopped moving immediately, and for a moment, he didn’t turn around. It was like he was deciding whether or not he even wanted to respond. When he finally looked at me, his expression didn’t soften at all. If anything, it made me feel like I had just interrupted something important, even though I knew I hadn’t.

If it’s short, we can talk here,” he said after a second, his voice calm but distant. If it’s serious, we should talk in my office.

I hesitated for a moment, thinking about it, before shaking my head slightly. I just have a few questions,I said. I was hoping you could answer them.

He studied my face for a second longer, like he was trying to figure something out, and then he nodded once. Come with

me.

I let go of his arm immediately, feeling a little strange about how easily he had agreed, and turned to Ivy. I’ll be back.I told her quickly.

She nodded, though she looked curious, like she wanted to ask what I was going to say to him, but she didn’t stop me.

I followed Jace out of the room, and the moment we stepped into the hallway, the air felt different. It was quieter, and for some reason, my heart started beating a little faster, even though I didn’t understand why. Maybe it was because I finally had a chance to ask questions that had been building up in my head since earlier today, or maybe it was because I was walking alone with him, and there was something about him that made me feel a little on edge.

We walked down the hall without saying anything, and I stayed a step behind him, watching the way he moved, calm and confident like he owned the entire place. We went down the stairs next, and I couldn’t help but notice how big everything looked. The house itself was already too much for me to process, and now seeing more of it just made it worse. It didn’t feel like a student house. It felt like something else entirely.

When we finally stopped in front of a door, he opened it without hesitation and stepped inside, and I followed him in. expecting something normal.

What I saw instead made me freeze for a second,

The room was huge, not just big, but huge in a way that didn’t make sense for someone his age. There was a large desk, a wide sofa, shelves filled with books and things I didn’t even recognize, and everything looked clean, expensive, and perfectly

placed. It didn’t look like a student’s room. It looked like an office belonging to someone much older, someone with a completely different kind of life.

I stood there for a moment, just looking around, trying to take it all in, and I couldn’t help the thought that slipped into mind. Why does he need all this?

The question sat at the edge of my lips, but I stopped myself before I could ask it. That wasn’t why I was here. I needed to focus.

Sit,Jace said, breaking my thoughts as he gestured toward the sofa.

my

I nodded quickly and moved to sit down, trying not to look around too much anymore, even though it was hard not to. The moment I sat, he took the seat opposite me, his posture straight, his expression unreadable.

What questions do you have?he asked immediately, his tone direct, like he didn’t want to waste time.

Something about the way he said it bothered me, but I pushed that feeling aside and focused on what I needed to know. want to understand what’s happening to me.I said slowly. I want to understand what I am and what all of this means.

He didn’t interrupt, so I continued. You all keep saying I’m a werewolf like it’s something normal, but it’s not normal to me. Two days ago, I was justme, and now I have a voice in my head. I’m losing control of my body, and apparently I have five mates.I let out a small, tired breath before adding, So yeah, I need answers. What exactly does it mean to be a werewolf?

Jace watched me quietly, and for a moment, I thought he wasn’t going to respond, but then he leaned back slightly and spoke. You’re asking for too much at once,he said. You need to be specific.”

I frowned at him. What do you mean?

I mean,he said calmly, that I can’t explain everything to you in one go. Being a werewolf isn’t something that can be explained in simple terms. It’s not like explaining a subject in school. It’s something you’re just born as, not something you’re taught.

I stared at him, frustrated, before letting out a sigh. Fine,I said. Then let’s start with something simple.

He waited.

What does it mean that I’m your mate?I asked, my voice quieter now, but still firm. Because from what I’ve heard so far, it doesn’t feel like a simple matter at all. So just how serious is it?

His gaze didn’t waver. It simply means you’re connected to us,he said.

Connected how?I asked quickly.

In every way that matters.he replied.

That answer only made things worse. That’s not an answer,” I said, my frustration rising again. What does that actually mean? Because from what I’ve experienced, it means I could lose control of myself whenever I’m around you or them, and I don’t even understand why

Jace didn’t react to my tone. Your reaction is because your wolf is awakeninghe said. And because you’re surrounded by your mares.

I leaned forward slightly. So this mate thingWhat is it? Is it like some kind of bond? A relationship? A curse?

He was quiet for a second before answering. It’s a bond,he said simply

And what does that bond do? Lasked.

I ties you to us, he said Emotionally, physically, and instinctively.

You always have a choice,” he said.

Really?I asked, raising a brow. Because it doesn’t feel like I do. It feels like something inside me is making decisions for

me.
