Erik stayed where he was, watching Violet spin in another man's arms, her smile shining. It slammed into his chest.

The producer wasn't old either. He was fit, well-kept, and the gold-rimmed glasses gave him a refined look. Standing beside Violet, the famous superstar, they looked annoyingly well-matched.

Erik couldn't stand it. He wanted to storm over and pull her away, but Sienna appeared right then.

"Erik, I finally found you!" Sienna slipped her arm through his naturally. "The dancing has started. Aren't you going to ask me? Don't forget what you promised. You said you'd play the role properly."

Erik forced his eyes off the dance floor, swallowed the churn in his chest, and smiled. "Of course. Let's go."

He led Sienna onto the floor. His steps were perfect, his manners smooth. Together, they drew attention easily, like a picture made to be admired.

As they danced, Violet caught sight of them from the corner of her eye. Something pricked her heart—not painful, just irritating. Her smile grew even brighter, her laughter livelier, as if she was fully wrapped in the music.

What she didn't know was that Erik kept stealing glances at her. Watching her laugh with another man while ignoring him entirely made anger burn through him.

When the song ended, Violet thanked the producer politely and excused herself to fix her makeup. She headed down the side hallway toward the restrooms, heels clicking sharply on the marble floor.

At a quiet corner, an arm suddenly reached out and yanked her into a narrow supply closet filled with cleaning tools. The door slammed shut, cutting off the noise outside.

"Erik! What are you doing?" Violet hissed, shaken and furious, struggling against the grip on her wrist.

Erik blocked the doorway, standing in the dim light. His expression was hard to read, but the tension in the air and the dark fire in his eyes were obvious.

"What do you think?" His voice was low, packed with anger. "I just want to ask you this. Was one dance worth smiling that big and standing that close to him? Why did you turn me down? Was it because you already found someone new?
