(Author’s POV)
"What did you just say?" Fabian asked Gunnar, his eyes almost bulging out of his socket as his hands stopped in the middle of signing a document.
With a scratchy voice, his aide said in confirmation, "The two Everests brothers, Alaric and Dion, currently at the moment, they are currently at Red Stone’s main campus, young master." Fabian had asked him to keep an eye on them and investigate the matter regarding Myra’s disappearance as soon as possible. But he was so indulged with the latter task that he entrusted the former to someone else, who clearly wasn’t a very responsible person.
His head hung low as Fabian asked, "What are they doing there?" his voice filled with sharp edginess as he got up from his chair. A sudden uneasiness was bubbling up inside him.
"Young master, the third Everests child is there to give special classes and act as a temporary lecturer at the School of Fine Arts. As for the heir apparent of the Lycan King, he is~ ..." Gunnar paused briefly as he avoided Fabian’s piercing gaze.
"He is what, Gunnar?" Fabian was able to contain his fury at the moment as he urged him to finish his words.
With a guilty expression, Gunnar said, "He is there as a guest speaker, for a seminar conducted for the post graduate students."
Fabian clenched his jaw as well as his fists simultaneously. With a warning tone, he said, "I will deal with you on your negligence, afterwards." While saying this, he picked up his car keys and rushed out of the office.
As it was a regular maintenance session for the executive’s only elevator and the ones used by the hotel guests would take time to reach, Fabian made his way straight to the emergency stairs. Even though the CEO’s office was on the forty eighth floor.
As Jacob Larson was out on an overseas business trip, he had been tasked with looking after the hotel. He hadn’t really returned to the university for the past two days and was buried deep in work.
Descending the last stair to the basement, he dashed towards his car. As soon as he hopped in the driver’s seat and started the car, he muttered, his voice gravelly, "Call Chairman Larson."
The automated voice replied, "I will be connecting your call to ’Chairman Larson’," and after a beep, the bell started ringing.
After four or five rings, the call gets answered, "Hello."
Fabian made a sharp turn as he raced his Aston Martin Valour out of the basement. With a restraining tone, he asked, "What is the meaning of all this?"
"I don’t know what you are talking about," Jacob stated, his tone filled with confusion.
"Mr. Larson, you know exactly what I am talking about. Why the hell are those filthy wolves there on the university campus? I know you are behind this. You must have allowed it. Without your permission, there is no way they would be able to do what they are doing," Fabian said in an accusatory tone.
For a few seconds, there was silence on the other end. Fabian, who was driving at almost one twenty k.m. per hour, literally barked, "JUST TELL ME WHY DID YOU ALLOW THEM?"
He then heard a heavy sigh from the other side as Jacob said, "Fabian, calm down for a second."
"NO~ .... you answer me first," Fabian was thoroughly irritated. Ever since Jacob gave him the news that those Lycan blood bearers were going to visit Esteria, he has been having this stifling, suffocating feeling. And after knowing about Myra’s past, the dreadfulness in his heart has only amplified.
How much their presence has been affecting Myra, he can see it all.
"Fabian Stephens, you need to get a grip on yourself," Jacob said, his tone reprimanding. "As for why Dion Everests and Alaric Everests are at the university, it is because they have taken up my offer."
"Your offer? What kind of offer?" Fabian questioned, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as he overtook a heavy duty truck. There was a strain in his voice because of that.
Jacob knitted his brows together when he heard the sound of honking and air from Fabian’s end. He inquired, "Fabian, where are you? Are you driving right now? Pull over. Pull over, right now."
"WHAT OFFER DID YOU GIVE THEM, MR. LARSON?" Fabian repeated his question. His voice was laced with sternness.
Jacob rubbed his forehead in frustration. He knew very well how sensitive his grandson had been from a young age. He has mastered the art of concealing it, but nothing could be hidden from Jacob Larson.
"I was working in my office," Fabian said, his tone remaining polite.
Alaric sized Fabian’s state and added, "I guess you really wanted to meet me. You even came rushing here in the middle of your work."
"Of course, I rushed here just to meet you," Fabian replied. His mouth was plastered with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
Meanwhile, behind him, Myra was ready to leave, but Shelly was holding her hand. She whispered in Myra’s ears, "Hey, this is such a golden opportunity to introduce ourselves to such a prominent figure."
"I am good," Myra shot down her words immediately.
In the middle of all this, Zachary, who had followed Alaric off the stage, saw both of them.
He was really fond of Myra as she was such a hardworking student, the cream of the crop. His wife, Riya Johnson, liked her even more for her kindness and respect.
Seeing the opportunity, he walked towards Myra and abruptly cut in on Alaric and Fabian’s conversation, "Mr. Everests, I would like you to meet someone."
Myra’s breath hitched in her throat. She gulped her saliva down nervously as her heart raced erratically. Shelly was buzzing with excitement. To her, it was a scene straight out of a romantic movie, where the female lead meets the male lead for the first time. She was full on cheering for Myra, with heart in her eyes, ready to bless both of them.
Before Fabian could stop all that, Zachary urged Myra as well as Shelly to step forward, "Come, I want to introduce you to Mr. Everests."
Alaric arched his brow, feeling amused as he thought, ’How will you get out of this? What lie are you going to give this time, umm?’
