(Alaric’s POV)
’Al, what’s with this smug smile plastered on your face, huhh?’ my wolf muttered.
’What smile? I ain’t smiling~ .... stop being delusional, you stupid wolf,’ I said, shrugging him off as I slumped onto the bed.
"Ummhmm~ .... ohh yeah. I totally can see that. You seemed quite pleased today. But what are you so pleased with, hmm?’ he kept on rambling. ’Is it because of Myra? Because, unlike a couple of days back, there was no disgust in her eyes. She didn’t resist as much as she would. Or you think you have one-upped that Fabian guy?’
’Shut up, Alex.’ my mood was good today. So, I wasn’t going to give in to his pestering.
He was about to speak when my phone buzzed. I took it out to see that human girl calling.
’See, it is back again~ .... that smile,’ Alex chimed. He has been blabbering too much.
I picked up the call at once, but before I could even say hello, her voice, filled with jumbled, nonsensical words, came from the other end, "Hello~ ...ohh ... Fabian~ .... Did you arrive already? I was on the way to uni .... No, no, it won’t be any problem. I will be there soon. Sir, turn around the car and take me to the downtown area."
’Fabian?’ for some reason, I was irritated to hear her say his name, I spat back, "What are you rambling? I am not Fabian Stephens. Are you drunk or what?"
For a while, there was silence on the other end. She spoke nothing; only her breathing sound came from the other side of the line. I couldn’t help but think. ’Has she really been drinking?’
I just saw that guy, Stephens, five minutes ago. So, there was no way he was in the downtown area of Esteria. Even I, in my wolf form, won’t be able to cover that much area in such a short amount of time. There was something odd about her call. I got up at once and was about to head out when I heard her voice again, "Sir, what happened? Why did you stop the car? I told you to take a U-turn?"
"Myra~ .... what car? Who are you with? Are you not at home? Where are you right now? Answer me," I fired a flurry of questions. But instead of her answer, a man’s voice came, "You are a handful. Give this old man a break, will you? Young lady. I said we are just about to reach. So, what’s the problem?"
"MYRA MIRACLE~ .... Answer me. Are you in danger? Give me a sign," I spoke again. But no answer came from her side.
Not disconnecting the call, I made my way out of my room, in a hurry. I heard all the threats the bastard was vomiting out, and my blood boiled. ’Who the fucking hell dared to do this? I will tear him apart.’ I said, "Don’t be scared. I am on my way. And, don’t disconnect the call. Okay?"
I could hear the shivering in her voice as she asked, "What are you doing? What’s the meaning of this?" Pure rage took over me as I increased my speed.
Another voice, different from the previous bastard came, "Nothing much~ ...." After that, with a beep sound, the line was disconnected. I called again, but the mechanical voice echoed, saying that the device was now switched off. Nevertheless, I dialled again and again, but the result remained the same.
As I walk out of the mansion and head towards my car, Brave’s voice stops me, "Al, I wanted to tell you~ .... ummm~ .... Where are you going? At this time?"
"There is something really urgent I need to take care of," I replied. "We will talk later."
