Chapter 410: Struggling Like a Fish Ready to Get Slaughtered

(Author’s POV)

"Who were you talking to at this time, Wendy?" William asked while mincing the veggies.

Wendy contemplated for a while whether to tell him or not. But she saw no harm, so she said, "It was~ .... Mr. Everests, asking where sis was."

"Mr. Everests, your new, temporary professor? Why will he ask for Myra?" he questioned, his brows furrowed.

Wendy clarified, "No, not him, dad. He is Prof. Dion Everests. The one who called me was Mr. Alaric Everests, the one in the photos." Apparently, William and Sandra weren’t part of the campus forum, so they weren’t aware of the whole issue at first, but when they went to the cafeteria this morning, they heard it from their colleagues.

William became more puzzled, "Why does he want to talk to Myra? Did he say anything?"

"Ummhmm~ ..." Wendy shook her head. "He seemed to be in some urgency. So, I told him she is out and will return his call when she comes back home. Ahhhh~ .... thinking of that, quite some time has passed already. Why has sis not arrived yet?" she mumbled.

William glanced at the wall clock. It had been around half an hour or so since the call. "Wendy, give Myra a call and ask her where she is right now," he said.

Wendy did as she was told, but only the robotic sound reverberated, "The number you have dialled is currently switched off~ .... please call again later." She told William, who narrowed his eyes.

"Switch off? Try again," he uttered. Wendy called and put her phone on speaker, but it was the same old thing. This made the atmosphere tense. It was already dark outside, dense clouds had started gathering as well, making it seem all the more ominous.

Sandra, who was inside her room, resting, came out. "Will, Wendy, what are you both doing?" she asked, while massaging her temples. Ever since Myra left for dinner, she had been having migraine ache.

Wendy was about to tell her, but William interrupted, "Nothing .... we are just making some ginger soup. Why are you out here? Go and take a rest. Wendy~ .... Take your mother to the room." He then whispered gently, so that only Wendy could hear, "Don’t tell your mom about Myra."

Wendy nodded and took Sandra. William quickly washed his hands and made a call on Myra’s phone. It was still turned off. He then called Yelena.

After three to four rings, he answered, "Hello~ .... Uncle William."

"Yelena, is Myra with you? Are you both on your way home?" he queried.

"Uhhh~ .... Myra, she isn’t with me. She took a cab home, Uncle William. Did she not arrive yet? It has been quite a while since she left here," she replied.

William’s hands clenched unconsciously. "She must be arriving." He said this more to himself than to her.

"Uncle~ ... my grandpa is calling for me. I won’t be coming home tonight. When Myra arrives, do ask her to give me a call," Yelena said and then ended the call.

He waited for another ten minutes. While the soup simmered in the pot, his eyes were glued to his phone and the time. He couldn’t sit still now.

Taking his umbrella, he stepped out of the house to wait for his daughter. The rain had started to pitter patter now. He walked on the road some more, but there was no sign of any vehicle approaching. With each passing second, the anxiousness William was feeling only deepened.

All of a sudden, someone called for him, "Mr. Miracle?"
