(Myra’s POV)
Unnghh~ .... arghh~ .... low, painful grunts escaped my mouth. I don’t know why, but it felt like my entire body was twinging and throbbing, every bone inside me screaming, as if it had been used as a punching bag. As for my head, it felt like it was weighing down.
I heard hushed, muffled, distant sounds of people conversing with one another, but couldn’t make out what they were saying. Slowly, forcefully, and with great difficulty, I lifted my eyelids and tried to see where I was, but my vision was doused in nothing but all black. I couldn’t see anything. My face was covered with a dark piece of cloth.
Gradually, I came to my senses and tried to take it off to clear my vision, but found that my hands were tied up and so were my legs strapped together. My thighs were bound to a chair as well. I instantly recalled what had happened before I fainted.
The entire episode of how the shady cab driver didn’t turn the car around even after I insisted, and had brought thug looking men with him who threatened me. The images of me struggling, kicking their shin and foot, and them slapping me hard across the face resurfaced in my mind, and a shiver ran down my spine. After that, things became blurry, and I have no recollection whatsoever.
I exerted myself to move, but every single movement made it feel like each of the organs stuffed inside my body was getting crushed and twisted. It was just too excruciating, the ache I mean.
All of a sudden, I heard the floor creak and several imposing footsteps approaching me. I immediately stopped what I was doing and stayed still, pretending to be unconscious.
Then one person, whose voice I recalled as Larry’s, said, "Boss~ .... we did as he told, but there has been no sign of him coming? When will he be here? He certainly didn’t ditch us or something? If he isn’t coming, can I use her? Her scent~ .... she is~ .... just~ ..."
"Shut up, Larry. We cannot do anything to her. Not yet~ ...." the other one said.
My antenna caught onto the word ’he’ as my face turned ashen. So, it was all planned and not some random kidnapping. But who could it be, who could have such a vendetta to harm someone like me? Who could it be? My mind spiralled.
There were a couple of people that came to my mind, the first one being Nigel Long.
After what happened today, he is very much capable of doing such a dirty thing. But does he have the guts? I don’t know. But the hatred in his eyes was something I couldn’t get out of my head.
The second person I thought of was Alaric Everests~ .... But my heart quickly shut the thought down, on its own. For no reason, suspecting him didn’t feel right at all. Though I have always thought of him as a villain in my story, he, at the very least, wouldn’t stoop so low. So, he was cut out of the suspect list.
And the last one that came to my mind was those unknown people, because of whom I ran away from the Everests and fled from Damona in the first place.
Those beast-like, leery men, not just with their appearance, but inside and out. The one I killed and his companion, they were also working on someone’s orders. Maybe that person is behind all of this. But~ .... but, how did they even find me?
