(Author’s POV)
"Hello~ .... Dad," Myra’s hoarse, scratchy voice echoed in the now silent room.
"M~ .... MY~ ... MYRA~ my child. Is it you? Wher~ .... where have you been? No~ ... first tell me, how are you? Are you safe? Are you well? You are not in any danger, right?" William’s restless voice erupted from the other end.
"Dad~ .... I~ ..." she choked. She didn’t want to tell her family because they would worry about her, but this thing, it can’t be hidden for long. Clearing her throat, she spoke again, "I~ ... am at a hosp~... hospital. I~ ...."
"HOSPITAL? Which hospital? What happened? Myra~ ...." William’s tone raised a notch or two as he got up from the couch. Several voices in the background flared up as well. That’s when she heard a female voice filled with concern and anxiety, "Hospital? What hospital? Why is Myra there? Mr. Miracle, why is she in a hospital?"
Myra’s brows wrinkled together when she heard the familiar voice. It did not belong to her mother, Sandra, but to Amy, Mrs. Amy Garcia. She licked her chapped, dried lips and asked William, "Dad~ .... where~ .... where are you now? Why are you with Amy~ .... Mrs. Garcia?" Her voice was trembling slightly.
William hesitated. At that time, he and Sandra were sitting in their living room. Amy and Sebastian Garcia were settled opposite them. Apparently, the Garcia couple have come to talk about ’something significant’ with them. "Mrs. and Mr. Garcia came to our house for something," he told Myra."
Last night, after not getting any news about Myra, the whole Miracle family was tense and antsy. He had called her relentlessly, but it always came out switched off. Even Fabian didn’t call him back.
Wendy called all of Myra’s friends, but none of them knew about her whereabouts. As for Yelena, she had been unreachable as well. So, at around the crack of dawn, the first thing William, Sandra and Wendy did was to go to a police station and file a missing person’s report.
"Dad~ ...." Myra mumbled. "Did she~ .... did they say something to you and mom?" she asked, her eyes flickering as her jaw clenched.
After what happened last night, during dinner, she knew Amy would somehow try to contact her, but she didn’t expect her to come to her house directly, that too with her husband, Sebastian Garcia. Both her hands clenched the phone, involuntarily. She never wanted her parents to know about what Amy had told her yesterday. She even wanted to erase that memory from her mind and bury it deeply. In the car, Myra had already decided she wanted nothing to do with her.
At this point, she was stressing too much about the issue, as the sharp, straining, buzzing ache in her head returned. The ice pick headache, the electric shock like sensation in her brain, made the phone slip from her grip. Reflexively, she tried to reach out to grab it, but instead of catching the phone, she only caught air. The phone landed on the clean, marbled floor with a loud, smacking sound.
She also ended up losing her balance and stumbled forward, but before she could hit the ground, Brave came rushing in with lightning bolt speed and locked her in his arms. His grip was firm yet gentle on her shoulders as he squeezed his hands around them. The moment he touched Myra, she could feel her pain dulling little by little.
