(Author’s POV)
"Hello~ ...." Brian answered the call from an unknown number, his voice devoid of any emotion.
"Long time~ .... Vampire Elder," A sultry voice chimed in. "Did you miss me?"
With just a few words, Brian could immediately tell who the caller was. His eyes dilated, then his whole demeanor turned cold as he asked, "How did you even get my number?"
"Ohhhooo~ ... wrong question," she hummed, "Instead, you should ask, why am I calling you? Isn’t it?" her tone playful.
"I don’t have time for your games. If you have nothing to say~ .... I am hanging up," Brian had no intention of entertaining the person, even for a second.
"Always~ ... in a hurry, tskkkk~ .... Apparently, I just saw a doppelganger of Vampire King’s minion here~ ...." She passed on the information.
"What did you say? Who is there?" Brain Tape screamed into his phone at the other party, his eyes a blazing red now.
"Vampire Elder Tape, I said I saw someone who looks just like Jacob Larson’s right hand man," the other person told him, her voice monotone. "Ummmm~ ... what was his name again~ ...."
"You mean, you saw Chris Shadow? There~ .... At Gouldland? What nonsense are you spouting?" Brian interrupted as he started asking questions. His voice sounded baffled. "What would he be doing there?"
"How would I know? I told you what I saw," the one on the phone sounded extremely laidback. "Now you know~ .... okay, then~ ..." She was about to hang up when suddenly Brian’s voice sharpened, perking up, "Hey, WAIT~ ...."
A coy smile played on the woman’s lips. She neither disconnected the call nor did she utter a single word. Brian mumbled, "Keep an eye on that person."
"Why?" she said, her tone flirtatious.
"What do you mean~ ... why?" Brian’s voice was filled with disbelief.
"Why should I~ ...? What would I get, umm? B~RI~AN T~A~P~E~," she whispered, his name playing on her lips intoxicatingly.
Brian scoffed as he combed a hand through his hair in frustration, "I will give you~ ... Five Thousand Dollars."
A mocking laughter echoed from the other side, lasting for a bit, "HahaHAHAa~ ... AHhaahaha, Five Thousand Dollars. Pufffhahahahhaha~ .... They won’t even be enough for my outfit alone. Why are you being so duff, Vampire Elder? Where will you take all that slush fund money you have acquired? You don’t even have anyone who can inherit it."
"Shut up~ .... Don’t you dare cross your station, you fucking fish," Brian, as usual, lost his temper. "I will rip off those scales of yours. Got it."
"So, you don’t need my help any longer. Fine~ ..." she said this and disconnected the call without a moment’s hesitation. Then, she glanced at her phone’s display and muttered, a knowing smile playing on her lips, "Ten~ .... Nine~ .... Eight~ .... Seven~ .... Six~ ... Five~ ... Four~ ... Three~ ... Whoops~ .... ruined my countdown~ .... He must be desperate~ ..."
She waited another two seconds and then picked up, her voice languid, "HE~LLLOWWWW~ ...."
"Ummm~ .... good thing you came straight to the point~ ummm~ .... Let me think~ ...." She dragged on, "How about~ ..... fifty thousand~ ... umm~ ... fifty," she said.
