Chapter 414
Chapter 414
Reven’s POV
I heard the sound again in my dream, something hitting against something else, faint but persistent.
It echoed in the back of my mind, like a warning I refused to understand.
Slowly, I opened my eyes.
Darkness still filled the room, but everything seemed… normal.
I stared around, my heart beating a little faster than usual. The curtains swayed slightly with the early morning breeze. The silence returned, almost too perfect.
“Probably a rat..” I murmured to myself, my voice hoarse with sleep.
I turned over, pulling the blanket closer, forcing my eyes shut.
And just like that, I drifted back to sleep-completely unaware that my life had already begun to fall apart.
The next time I woke up, it wasn’t because of a sound.
It was my phone.
The sharp vibration against the wooden bedside table made me groan as I reached for it blindly.
My eyes were still heavy, but I forced them open enough to read the message on the screen.
Client: Bring the jewelry before 9 AM.
My heart skipped.
I shot up immediately, all traces of sleep gone in an instant.
“Oh my God…”
My fingers moved quickly as I typed a reply.
Me: I’ll be there.
The moment I hit send, panic settled in.
I was already behind time.
Jumping out of bed, I rushed to the bathroom, not even bothering to think.
The cold water hit my skin, shocking me fully awake. My mind raced as I bathed quickly, my movements hurried and careless.
No coffee.
No breakfast.
Nothing.

Chapter 414
I didn’t have time.
I needed to deliver that jewelry and still make it to my 10 AM shift.
After dressing up in a rush, I grabbed my bag and turned toward the corner where I had hidden the envelope the night
before.
I stopped.
Something felt off.
My steps slowed as I approached.
The spot was empty.
I blinked.
“No… no, no…”
I stepped closer, my hands shaking as I looked again.
Maybe I was mistaken.
Maybe I kept it somewhere else.
I dropped to my knees, searching frantically-under the small table, behind the curtain, and inside nearby drawers.
Nothing.
My breath quickened.
“No… this isn’t happening…”
I stood up and searched the entire room, my movements becoming more desperate with each passing second.
I checked every corner, every possible hiding place.
Still nothing.
My chest tightened painfully.
I ran out of the room and searched the rest of the house.
Nothing.
It was gone.
The envelope was gone.
I froze in the middle of the living room, my mind struggling to process it.
Then.
It hit me.
The sound last night.

Chapter 414
My head snapped toward the window
My feet moved slowly, almost unwillingly, as I approached it.
And then I saw it.
The window was tampered with
Slightly open.
Forced.
My heart dropped into my stomach.
“No…” I whispered, shaking my head.
“It can’t be…”
But deep down, I already knew the truth.
It was stolen.
A
My phone buzzed again.
I looked at it with trembling hands.
Client: Where are you?
I stared at the message, my vision blurring.
How was I supposed to respond?
How do you tell someone that a million-dollar jewelry piece was stolen from you overnight?
Who would even believe that?
It sounded like a lie.
A stupid, unbelievable lie.
I ignored the message.
Instead, I went back to searching, as if the jewelry would magically appear if I looked hard enough.
It didn’t.
Minutes passed.
Then more minutes.
Reality began to sink in, heavy and suffocating.
I sat down on the bed, running my fingers through my hair, gripping it tightly.
“What am I going to do…?”

Chapter 414
My voice cracked.
A million dollars.
Where was I supposed to get that kind of money?
And it wasn’t just any jewelry; it was rare.
Irreplaceable.
Tears welled up in my eyes.
“What will the manager do to me?”
Fear gripped my entire body.
Just then
The door opened.
I flinched.
Edna walked in.
She stopped immediately, her eyes scanning the room before landing on me.
“What happened here, Reven?” she asked, her voice filled with concern. “Were you attacked?”
That was it.
The moment she asked, everything broke.
I burst into tears.
“Edna…” I sobbed, my voice shaking. “The jewelry… it’s gone…”
Her expression changed instantly.
“What do you mean gone?”
I told her everything about the delivery, the breakdown, bringing it home, the sound I heard at night, and waking up to find it missing.
By the time I finished, I was shaking uncontrollably.
“Oh my God…” Edna whispered, placing her hand on her head.
“Why would you bring something like that here?” she asked, her tone filled with disbelief. “You know this neighborhood in E safe!”
“I didn’t know…” I cried. “I didn’t think this would happen… and no one knew about it! Just me, the manager, and the client.
She frowned. “Then who took it?”
“I don’t know…” I said helplessly. “I wish I did…”

Tears streamed down my face.
“If I don’t find that jewelry… I might go to jail, Edna…”
She moved closer and pulled me into a hug.
“It’ll be okay,” she said softly.
But I could hear the uncertainty in her voice.
My phone rang.
I pulled back slightly and looked at the screen.
Manager.
My heart nearly stopped.
I couldn’t pick it up.
I couldn’t.
The phone kept ringing.
And ringing.
And ringing.
“Reven,” Edna said gently, “you need to answer it.”
I shook my head rapidly.
“How do I tell her?” I cried. “How do I tell her I lost a million-dollar jewelry piece?! She won’t believe me!”
“You have to go there and explain,” Edna insisted. “We can involve the police.”
“I can’t go alone…” I whispered, grabbing her hand. “Please come with me.”
She hesitated for a second.
Then nodded.
“I’ll go with you.”
The journey to the mall felt like the longest of my life.
My hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
My heart wouldn’t slow down.
Every second felt like I was getting closer to something terrible.
When we finally arrived, my legs felt weak.
I could barely walk,

Chapter 414
The moment I stepped inside, I saw the manager pacing back and forth, her face filled with
anger and
worry.
As soon as she saw me, she rushed over.
“Reven!” she snapped. “What’s going on? The client called me saying, The package wasn’t delivered!”
I broke.
“I’m sorry, ma…” I cried. “The cab broke down yesterday… the driver went to get a mechanic, and it got late… I called the client and told him I’d deliver it this morning…”
She stared at me.
“And?”
My voice trembled.
“When I woke up… it was gone… it was stolen…”
Silence.
Then-
She laughed.
A cold, disbelieving laugh.
“You expect me to believe that nonsense?” she said sharply. “You think I’m stupid?”
“No, ma, I’m telling the truth!” I pleaded.
“You better start talking,” she snapped. “Or I’ll call the police.”
“I didn’t steal it!” I cried.
Edna stepped in, trying to explain, but the manager refused to listen.
“Either you produce that jewelry,” she said firmly, “or you go to jail.”
My knees felt weak.
Jail.
