While waiting at a red light, Heath turned to look at Aurora. His gaze seemed casual but struck her to the core. “Would you ever harm me?” he asked.

She could spend her entire life seeking revenge on Isabella Whitmore and Dominic Ashcroft, fighting against the underworld and the Whitmore family, but she would never harm Heath. She held this secret close to her heart–her identity, her past, her purpose. She feared that when the time came for her to step onto the battlefield, she might drag Heath down with her.

All she wanted was his safety.

Heath smiled, reaching over to ruffle the back of her fluffy hair. “That’s enough for me.”

As long as she said no, he believed her.

Back home, Aurora sent photos of Zane and Cheryl to Derek Eastwood, the author of War Against Fate. After seeing the photos, Eastwood immediately agreed to the adaptation.

Jay had already arrived at the Pendleton residence. Leen had arranged for him to stay there, providing him with a car, a home, and a salary. Holding his new car keys, Jay said, “I never thought I’d live like a normal person.”

Aurora felt a pang in her heart. From the day they joined the Abyss, they were told they could die in a foreign land, their bodies never to be found. Her naive affection for Dominic Ashcroft had brought disaster upon her and those around her.

She was content just to see Jay standing safely before her.

Jay waved a hand in front of her face. “Aurora, why are you crying?”

Aurora shook her head. “I was thinking about Carly and the others. I wonder when they’ll be back.”

Jay slumped onto the sofa. “Who cares? Jasper and Carly are probably vacationing on some island. As long as the Abyss can’t find them, they’re safe.”

Aurora nodded.

The next day, Aurora sent the script to Zane, who was furious. “Why do I have to act in whatever you tell me to?”

Aurora: ‘You lost the bet, Fair and square.”

Zane: “…”

On his end, Alaric had already contacted a director. Eastwood was closely involved in revising the script and dialogue to ensure maximum fidelity to the original.

Everything was ready; all that was left was Cheryl.

A year after the college entrance exams, Cheryl arrived in the capital city. Her first meeting with Zane was on set.

Zane, dressed in suit, looked like a spoiled young master. He was sitting with his legs crossed, being attended to by assistants.

When he saw Aurora bring Cheryl in, he looked up and sneered, “This is the female lead? She looks like a man.”

Aurora: “…”

In reality, Cheryl just had short hair and a somewhat androgynous look. Zane was just picking a fight with Aurora.

Cheryl was equally blunt: “This is the male lead? He looks like a pretty boy.”

Zane: “…”

He had grown up in a circle where everyone treated him with respect. Outside of it, his good looks and charm had won him a large fan base. Who dared to talk to him like this?

Before he could retort, Cheryl had already walked away with the makeup artist.

Aurora plopped down next to Zane and said, “Just you wait. Cheryl is going to blow your mind.”

Zane snorted. “I doubt it.”

Aurora: “Wanna bet?”

Aurora: “How about you commit to this film project wholeheartedly? If Cheryl’s makeup reveal impresses you, you’ll follow my directions and give this movie your all.”

Zane, scrolling through his phone, nodded. “Deal.”

An hour later, Zane was almost dozing off when the makeup room door opened. The girl who walked out bore no resemblance to the tomboyish Cheryl he’d seen earlier.

She was no longer just a girl; she was the epitome of a sultry songstress. Her black curly hair cascaded down her back, her makeup was exquisite, her eyes were elongated and seductive, and her red lips were striking. A beauty mark under her eye added a touch of vulnerability.

She wore a dark red dress that perfectly outlined her curves, and her small high heels and hand fan added to her allure.

Zane was stunned. If he hadn’t seen Cheryl walk into the makeup room himself, he would never have believed this was the same person.

Aurora tapped him on the shoulder, bringing him back to reality. She shook her head and said, “Remember, you promised to take this film seriously.”

Why did he ever bet with Aurora? It felt like he’d signed a contract selling his soul.

On Aurora’s end, preparations for War Against Fate were in full swing. Evelyn Media announced that Sophia would be the female lead in their new high school drama, Youth.

Cheryl, scrolling through the news, asked, “Wouldn’t it be embarrassing to lose to Sophia?”

Aurora nodded. “That’s why you have to give it your all.”

The first scene they shot was the initial meeting between Dylan and Yasmine in a dance hall. Cheryl stood on stage singing, her voice melodious and her eyes flirtatious. Zane sat among a group of wealthy young men, toasting and reveling.

Their eyes met. Dylan looked at Yasmine with a mixture of aggression and admiration.

Both the director and Eastwood, the original author and screenwriter, were full of praise. It was as if the characters had walked right out

of the book.

Cheryl’s perfect take was the result of years of honing her craft and playing various bit parts. Zane’s was because the role of a spoiled rich boy was basically him playing himself.

Aurora was juggling school and the film set. After the official announcement of War Against Fate, the book’s fans were buzzing with excitement. When Zane was revealed as the male lead, Dylan, there were many skeptics. However, a leaked clip showcasing Zane’s performance silenced the critics.

Throughout the filming, the production company only occasionally released photos and behind–the–scenes footage of Zane, keeping the female lead a closely guarded secret.

Alaric asked Aurora, “Isn’t it time to reveal the female lead?”

Aurora shook her head. “No, the day Cheryl appears on screen as Yasmine will be the day the internet explodes.”

She had complete faith in Cheryl–her looks, her acting skills, her every move. She was the perfect Yasmine, a character who was outwardly gentle but inwardly strong, and utterly endearing.

So, there was no rush.
