That night, Heath’s promise of protection, his ‘Don’t be afraid, I’m here,” unleashed a torrent of tears she’d held back for so long. It was as if every injustice she’d ever faced was being washed away.
After descending the stairs, she hailed a cab. Kieran, who had just pulled up, called Heath: “Boss, I saw Miss Aurora leave the building. She seemed upset.”
“Follow her, make sure she gets home safely, then come back,” Heath instructed.
Kieran trailed the cab to the Pendleton estate, watched Aurora enter her home, and then drove back to the city.
Meanwhile, Heath sat up in his room, staring at the opened email on his laptop, lost in thought.
He had never been drunk, not really. He had wanted Aurora to take him home, to linger in her presence a bit longer. But when she mentioned the Whitmore family, he felt a shift in her, a familiar surge of emotion he could sense from her.
He had watched silently as she used his hand to unlock his phone, as she opened his laptop and read through his emails. Initially, he suspected she might be a corporate spy.
But then, he realized she only looked at one email before shutting down the computer.
What could one email reveal?
The more he thought about it, the more enigmatic Aurora became. No matter how good he was to her, she kept her secrets close, like a dragon guarding its treasure, never yielding.
He had kissed her in a feigned drunkenness, feeling her affection, sensing her grievances, yet she remained silent. Why?
Now, looking at the email about the Whitmore family’s Christmas banquet, he was even more puzzled.
He rubbed his temples, piecing together the clues.
The first time, the Whitmore family intercepted his shipment, and Olivia had helped him recover it. But only a few people knew about the interception: himself, Kieran, Eamon in the States, and Aurora.
How did Olivia find out?
The second time, a business secret leaked on the day of a meeting with the Whitmore family, ruining a potential partnership. Again, only a select few knew: himself, Kieran, Aurora. The Whitmore family’s CEO swore their security was tight.
So, who leaked the secret that sabotaged the deal?
And now, the third time, Aurora had accessed his computer, looking only at the email from the Whitmore family.
Every time the Whitmore family was involved, and Aurora was present, things went awry, The evidence was right before him, undeniable.
When Kieran entered, Heath was poring over all the correspondence with the Whitmore family and the information Kieran had gathered, searching for something.

Heath nodded, then asked, “What’s the situation with the Whitmore family?”
Mr. Whitmore insists on your attendance at the banquet. Mr. Lyne also mentioned that the Whitmore family has some connections there; it would be wise to go, Kieran advised.
Heath didn’t respond, continuing to sift through the documents. Kieran asked, ‘Boss, what are you looking for?”
Frustrated, Heath tossed aside the papers, leaning back on the couch, massaging his temples. He had drunk a lot that night, and his head was throbbing.
Heath was at a loss, thumbing through files with no idea what he was searching for. There was nothing concrete linking Aurora to the Whitmore family, yet her actions seemed to target them repeatedly. She was growing stronger, more determined. Heath had thought her drive stemmed from the abuse she suffered from the Pendletons, but now it seemed like she was on a personal vendetta against the Whitmore family.
“Kieran, any luck with Olivia?” Heath asked, his voice heavy with frustration.
Kieran shook his head, “Nothing. There are tens of thousands of Olivia in the States, all clean. The infamous assassin we’re looking for
isn’t among them. I’ve passed everything we have to Mr. Lyne; he’s taking over the investigation.”

Heath nodded, “Get Eamon on it, too. Whatever you find, I want to know immediately.”
Kieran agreed, though he couldn’t help but question, “Boss, Olivia helped us once. Why are we digging into her past?”
Heath’s gaze was fixed on the email on his screen. “Look into the Whitmore family again, and Olivia. Have Eamon’s people handle it.”
Kieran paused, “You think Olivia has ties to the Whitmore family?”
Heath could only suspect. If not, the trail might lead back to Aurora, and he dreaded that possibility. Behind him stood not just the Fairbank empire but allies like Lysander, Eamon, and Alaric. They wouldn’t allow any threat to Heath’s safety, not even a potential one from Aurora.
