Chapter 144
In this family, there was never a day of peace.
Ever since Maxwell could remember, Madeline constantly talked about moving into the Pendleton family mansion, telling him he was a descendant of the Pendletons and destined to return to his roots.
At that time, Madeline and Sebastian were only secretly dating, careful not to be discovered by others.
After Evelyn was born, Madeline became bolder. Every time Sebastian visited their house, she would nag him about when he would let her and their children move back to give them a legitimate status.
Later, she even brazenly dated Sebastian, taking Evelyn to the Pendleton mansion to cause trouble. She told them the woman living there was evil, having stolen their father, and taught them to insult and attack her.
That woman was Aurora’s mother, her name was Callista or something.
Evelyn, not knowing better, would always yell at Callista and even throw things at her. But Maxwell always felt that she didn’t seem like a bad person.
Not long after Aurora was born, Callista passed away. Madeline then moved them into the Pendleton house, and they took on the Pendleton surname, finally having a father and a home.
Before, Aurora was so inconspicuous that Maxwell never paid much attention to this matter. But now, as Aurora became more prominent, he suddenly realized that what they called having a home was nothing but stealing Aurora’s home.
And his respected mother and dear sisters kept boasting about this as if it were an honor.
He couldn’t do it. Every time he faced Aurora’s clear eyes, his heart was filled with guilt.
After Aurora returned to her room, she opened her computer and browsed through the news about Zane.
It was almost confirmed that he had harassed female celebrities, along with a disordered private life and addiction to nightclubs.
The comments were unanimously criticizing him.
‘Clearly, it’s Zane! Disgusting!”
“Why even pretend to be a popular fresh–faced celebrity? Such a sleazy guy!”
‘Does he mess around in every crew? Isn’t he afraid of overdoing it?”
“Strongly demand a ban! Such people are the cancer of the entertainment industry!”
“I can’t believe I was a fan for so many years, and he turned out to be such a person!”
“Zane must have strong backing, right? Who dares to ban him?”
“Firmly boycott all of Zane’s works! I don’t even want to watch War Against Fate anymore!”

Chapter 144
Even if a few loyal fans defended Zane, they were immediately overwhelmed by the fury of netizens.
Zane’s image plummeted overnight, falling from a popular young actor to a universally despised social pariah.

The popularity he had built up with War Against Fate vanished without a trace. Endorsement deals that were set in stone were all canceled, and Zane became less significant than even a nobody.
Cheryl and Daxton, who had previously collaborated with Zane several times and were very close to him, now refused to clarify their relationship with him in interviews, attracting a wave of backlash and losing several appearances.
In summary, Sophia’s actions were swift, accurate, and ruthless. She not only struck a blow to Zane but also inadvertently harmed Daxton and Cheryl, putting all three of their careers in jeopardy.
Aurora was about to call Carly, intending to ask her to hack into the surveillance system of the hotel to obtain the complete video footage.
Her phone started ringing. She answered, balancing the phone between her shoulder and ear while browsing the news. “Hello? Heath, what’s up?”
“Come to my place,” Heath’s voice was as magnetic as ever.
“Why? I’m busy right now,” Aurora replied, preoccupied with dealing with Zane’s issue and having no time to accompany him.
“Come over, I have the surveillance footage from the hotel,” Heath said casually.
Aurora was startled. “How did you know I needed the footage?”
“Kieran is waiting for you outside. Leave now,” Heath said before hanging up, his tone carrying a hint of… disdain?
Whatever, she thought. It didn’t matter if he was faster in getting the footage; what mattered was the footage itself.
Hurrying downstairs, Aurora told Leen she wouldn’t be back for dinner and rushed out. Kieran was indeed waiting at the door, car door already open. “Miss Aurora, please get in.”
Once in the car, Kieran closed the door and drove towards Heath’s place.
“How does Heath know about Zane’s issue? He never pays attention to the entertainment circle,” Aurora asked.
Kieran just smiled. ‘Miss Aurora, it’s best to ask the boss himself.”
Upon arriving, Aurora followed Kieran into the living room where Heath, in casual home wear, was lounging on the sofa. He smiled upon seeing her. “Come here,”
Aurora hurried over and sat next to Heath, eagerly asking, “Where’s the footage?”
Heath pointed to a box on the coffee table. “Here, the tape.”
She picked it up and asked for a computer to play it on.
“It’s in the study,” Heath replied.

As Aurora sprang up to head to the study, Heath suddenly pulled her into his embrace. Before she could react, he sealed her lips with his, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss he had longed for.
Kieran tactfully turned away, pretending to see nothing.
Aurora, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, tried to push Heath away, but he groaned softly. Realizing she had pushed against his injured shoulder, she quickly retracted her hand.
After some resistance from Aurora, Heath finally released her. He seemed pleased, complimenting her with a “Good girl.”
Aurora shot him a glare before taking the tape and hurrying to the study.
Playing the video, she saw exactly as Zane had described: He rushed upstairs into his room and came out shortly after, his shirt buttons undone and looking disheveled. Then Sophia emerged in a towel, her hair messy, gesturing and speaking agitatedly at Zane. Sophia’s assistant arrived, pulling her away and letting Zane leave.
Zane, oblivious to Sophia’s trap, hadn’t realized the danger until a couple of days ago when an obscure marketing account released the video, causing a major stir online.
