Chapter 157
No longer was she the aloof, unfeeling assassin. She had transformed into Aurora, a being of flesh, blood, and deep emotions.
Turning towards Heath, Aurora’s eyes gleamed as she whispered, “May I confide in you my most guarded secret?”
Heath, with a gentle smile, caressed her hair, responding softly, “There’s no need.”
Aurora’s expression shifted into a frown, her lips forming a pout. “But you’ve always seemed so eager to know…”
I promised you a year,” Heath reminded her, his gaze tender and lingering as it rested upon her.
They had agreed to a year’s wait, and Heath was committed to respecting that timeframe.
He would not exploit her state of inebriation to coax her secret from her.
Aurora blinked, shifted closer, and pressed her lips to Heath’s in a kiss.
Her soft, earnest lips met his, startling Heath into a rigid stillness, his mind a whirlwind of blankness. This was a first for him – Aurora initiating a kiss, rendering him momentarily thoughtless.
In stark contrast to his usual confident and skilled approach when stealing kisses from Aurora, Heath closed his eyes, immobile, fully
immersing himself in the sweet, unforeseen moment.
It wasn’t until a gentle brush graced his lips that Heath was jolted back to reality.
He quickly removed the wine bottle from Aurora’s grip, letting it roll away and spill its contents on the floor. He then lifted her effortlessly, kicked open the bedroom door, and both collapsed onto the soft bed.
What ensued was a fervent embrace, a cascade of emotions held at the edge of his self–control.
For Aurora, the kiss was merely a tentative exploration. The subsequent whirlwind of actions left her in a state of bewilderment, her thoughts scattered and disoriented.
Thus, when Heath finally raised his head after a deep, steadying breath, he found Aurora already asleep, her breathing soft and rhythmic.
Heath, half–amused and half–exasperated, gently pinched her waist. In response, Aurora made a slight noise of discomfort, her hand reflexively rising to slap Heath’s face.
Heath, rubbing his temples in mild frustration, went on to run a bath for her. He carefully placed her in the warm water, the brief interaction amplifying his own turmoil. He swiftly retreated to another bathroom for a much–needed cold shower.
Post–shower, Heath returned, gently lifted Aurora from the bath, and dressed her in one of his T–shirts. He then carried her back to bed.
Aurora remained soundly asleep throughout, undisturbed by the movements. Heath, observing her peaceful slumber, opted for another cold shower before finally joining her in bed.
He adjusted the blanket over her and drew her into his arms, seeking comfort in her presence.

Chapter 157
72)
Aurora stirred slightly in his embrace. Heath let out a sigh, a blend of helplessness and deep affection. He was resolved to cherish the girl he had chosen, even if it demanded patience and understanding.
The following morning, Aurora awoke with a throbbing head, her eyes opening to the sight of Heath’s relaxed, handsome face. His hair was tousled, his lashes thick, his features unguarded in sleep a portrait of perfect appearance.
She lay there, stunned, pondering the possibilities of what might have transpired the night before. But her memory offered no clarity – a poignant loss.
Noticing Heath’s eyelashes flutter, Aurora decided it was time to depart, unwilling to confront the potential awkwardness of a mutual awakening.
As she cautiously disentangled herself from his embrace, noting the masculine T–shirt she wore, she attempted to leave the bed. But before she could, Heath’s hand reached out, pulling her back against him. His voice, husky and close, inquired, “Where are you going?”
Aurora: “…”
In her mind, anywhere would suffice, as long as it wasn’t confined to the confines of this bed…
