Aurora, draping a chic coat over her shoulders, replied with a hint of resignation, “What choice did I have? When my grandpa speaks, even I can’t defy him completely.”

Vespera’s sigh was laden with concern. “With Sophia’s temperament, she’s bound to bite back at you someday.”

Aurora, admiring her reflection, asked, “Does this coat look good?”

“Just try it on, Vespera advised, her voice tinged with impatience.

The coat, a brilliant red that made Aurora’s complexion glow, fit her perfectly. Handing it back to the sales associate, she decided, “Wrap this one up for me.”

Turning to Vespera, a playful smile danced on Aurora’s lips. “Let her come back and bite. It’ll give me the perfect excuse to yank out her teeth and break her legs.”

Vespera shivered at the remark. “If Sophia’s smart, she’ll stay abroad and steer clear of you.”

Exiting the store, the pair meandered through the mall. Vespera snagged a couple of dresses and shoes, while Aurora’s haul included the coat, a new jacket for her grandfather, and New Year’s gifts for Little Fish, Leen, Jay, and others, along with a heap of festive items. They directed the mall to deliver everything directly to their Villa.

Spotting a stunning black men’s coat in a window display, Aurora mused that it would suit Heath’s broad shoulders and long legs. As she approached the coat, a voice from behind interjected, “I’ll take this coat.”

Whirling around, they spotted Elowen and Evelyn Pendleton, a surprising duo. Evelyn, glaring at the sales associate, demanded the coat.

Vespera’s eyebrows knitted in disapproval, and Aurora quipped, “Is this how the eldest Pendleton shops? Ignoring the basic courtesy of waiting your turn? Or did your family forget to teach you that?”

Evelyn’s retort was cold and dismissive. “Don’t pretend we’re close. Who are you to call me sister?”

Aurora’s smile didn’t waver. “True, I have no sisters. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have almost landed Sophia in jail.”

Evelyn’s glare intensified. If not for Aurora, her pampered youngest sister would never have been exiled.

Sophia’s pampered life hadn’t prepared her for the ordeal of being detained by the police, an experience that left her shaken.

Evelyn, pulling Elowen away, dismissed Aurora’s presence as beneath them.

As the sales associate presented the coat, Evelyn, ignoring Aurora’s gaze, snatched it up for a closer look. Turning to Elowen, she asked, “What do you think? It’s quite nice, isn’t it?”

Elowen nodded, the picture of understanding. “Yes, it’s lovely!”

The sales associate chimed in, “This coat is a part of our limited edition end–of–year collection. It’s exquisitely made, hence a bit pricier.”

Aurora was taken aback. “Limited edition? Are there no more available?”

The salesperson apologized with a smile. “I’m sorry, miss. This black one is the last we have. We do have another one in red, though.”

Bringing out the red coat, which still carried a hint of red despite its darker hue, Aurora pondered whether Heath, who usually wore black suits, would wear such a color.

Elowen, eyeing the red coat, remarked with a smile, “Black looks better. Take the black one.”

Evelyn’s parting words to Aurora were filled with scorn, “Don’t spend all your money on a single piece of clothing, Aurora. The Pendletons can’t afford such embarrassment.”

With that, she took Elowen and swept out of the store.
