Chapter 214
92
As he reached the entrance of the mall, Dominic Ashcroft saw Aurora Pendleton just getting into a taxi. The reflection of her face in the window was a blurry silhouette, unmistakably resembling Olivia!
Dominic ran towards her, shouting, “Olivia!”
But the taxi sped away, leaving no trace. The girl inside, Aurora, did not react at all, not even turning her head, absorbed in something else, seemingly oblivious to his calls.
Isabella followed, wiping the sweat off Dominic’s forehead with a handkerchief. “Dominic, you’ve mistaken someone else for her. Olivia has left the Abyss; it’s impossible for her to be here.”
Dominic stood frozen, staring in the direction where the taxi had disappeared.
He had searched everywhere she might have gone, scoured through all her missions, even utilized connections and influence to check other organizations and mercenaries for any trace of her.
All his anger at possibly being betrayed by someone so close had turned into longing.
Regardless of whether Olivia betrayed the Abyss or not, if she appeared, everything would be negotiable.
“Dominic, let’s go back, my dad is waiting,” Isabella tugged at Dominic’s arm.
Irritated, Dominic shook off her hand. “Tell your father I’m busy with work and will join them for dinner another time.”
Leaving those words behind, Dominic headed towards the parking lot, leaving Isabella standing alone, looking forlorn and frustrated.
Biting her lip, Isabella gazed at Dominic’s departing figure. How could he be so heartless? She had done everything for him, even significantly aiding his business. Yet since their engagement, Dominic had shown no desire to advance their relationship further.
His mind was consumed by Olivia, a killer and a spy, a woman who couldn’t hold a candle to Isabella in terms of family background or beauty. Yet, for some reason, Dominic couldn’t see beyond Olivia.
Was it just because Olivia and Dominic grew up together? Isabella plotted to eliminate Olivia, to dispose of her in the Cambodian wilderness. Dominic would never suspect that the ace killer of the Abyss met her end there.
In time, he would surely forget Olivia.
The taxi arrived at the hotel. Aurora got out, her legs gave way, and she collapsed at the hotel entrance.
A doorman rushed to assist her, asking, “Miss, are you alright?”
Aurora shook her head and entered the hotel lobby, sitting in the resting area for ten minutes to recover.
She hadn’t expected a simple shopping trip to lead to a near encounter with Dominic and Isabella. Nor did she imagine that just her silhouette would be enough for Dominic to recognize her.
If she had been just a moment later getting into the taxi, Dominic would have caught up to her, confronted with a face identical to
Olivia’s.
Chapter 214
It was too early for her to face Dominic or Isabella. She lacked the leverage to contend with Isabella.
After ten minutes, Aurora got up, rubbed her face, and took the elevator to her room. Before she could knock, the door swung open.
Heath, looking troubled, greeted her, “Rory?”
Aurora, slightly dazed, nodded, “What’s wrong?”
Heath pulled her inside, holding her tightly. “Where did you go? I tried calling, but your phone was off. I was about to have Eamon send people to look for you!”
Aurora smiled sheepishly, “My phone is broken, I haven’t had a chance to get a new one.”
Heath, somewhat exasperated, replied, “You should have told me sooner.”
He suggested going out to eat and buy her a new phone, but Aurora declined, saying she was tired and preferred to eat in the room.
Heath agreed and ordered room service. Aurora, not wanting to venture out and risk another encounter with Dominic and Isabella, gratefully accepted. After a day of unexpected events, she relished the quiet meal in her room.
In the afternoon, Aurora nestled in the hotel, watching TV while Heath sat on the sofa, engrossed in work. Indeed, Heath’s trip to the United States was purely for corporate matters, with no involvement from the KING organization. Eamon hadn’t shown up either, suggesting there were no pressing issues.
