At the gate, he waited in the car, while Aurora went in alone. The maid, seeing her, happily greeted, “Ms. Luce has been waiting for you.”
Entering the living room, Ms. Luce, seeing Aurora, brightened up, beckoning her to sit, “Nice to meet you!”
Aurora replied, “Nice to meet you, Ms. Luce. I brought some actor profiles for Madam to review.”
Ms. Luce waved it off, pouring coffee for Aurora, “No rush, let’s have some coffee first.”
Aurora set aside the documents, lifting the cup. It was a fine blend of coffee, complementing the local pastries. Though she had breakfast, she couldn’t resist having two pieces.
“Is the man waiting outside your boyfriend?” Ms. Luce suddenly asked.
Aurora blushed, shaking her head, “No… he isn’t.”
Ms. Luce smiled knowingly, “Invite him in, let him try my coffee.”
After a while, Heath entered, nodding to Ms. Luce, “Good day, Ms. Luce.”
Ms. Luce smiled, sizing him up, “Sit, have some coffee.”
Heath didn’t refuse, sitting to drink the coffee. Ms. Luce chuckled, “Gentleman, you’re always following Miss Pendleton, yet she says you’re not her boyfriend?”
Aurora’s face turned red, glancing at Heath, who seemed unconcerned, casually stating, “She’s shy, I’m used to it.”
Aurora: “…
Ms. Luce laughed, asking, “How’s the coffee?”
Heath smiled slightly, ‘I’m not accustomed to coffee, please forgive me, Madam.”
Ms. Luce wasn’t offended, laughing, “You’re straightforward. Now, you’re here to discuss rights. Let’s see what you’ve brought.”
Aurora immediately pulled out Cheryl’s files for Ms. Luce to see, playing some clips of Cheryl’s acting, “Madam, Cheryl might be young, but she’s a diligent actress. She can definitely handle the role!”
“Miss Pendleton, come with me,” Ms. Luce stood up, heading towards the garden.
Aurora glanced at Heath, who nodded. She quickly followed Ms. Luce to the garden.
Standing amidst the flowers, Ms. Luce spoke, “My father wrote many books in his lifetime, some even turned into movies, but they never quite met expectations. The youth favor tales of romance and heroism, not the societal maladies my father wrote about. My refusal to grant the rights isn’t to trouble you; it’s to spare you. If made, this film would find no audience.”

Aurora, somewhat anxious, countered, “That won’t be the case. Many are now attuned to issues like depression. I assure you Cheryl will deliver a compelling performance, and I will put my utmost effort into this project.”
Ms. Luce smiled, looking at Aurora, “Young lady, do you even know what depression is?”
Aurora hesitated, a strained smile forming, “Madam, I may not know fully, but my mother, afflicted with depression, passed away with
resentment.”

Ms. Luce was taken aback, “Your mother… she passed away?”
Aurora nodded, a bitter smile emerging, “Yes, when I was very young.”
Ms. Luce sighed deeply, her gaze softening on Aurora, “Well then, I’ll give you the rights. But keep in mind that this film is unlikely to be profitable.”
Aurora’s smile brightened, “Thank you, Ms. Luce. Ì will try my best.”
As they strolled through the garden, Ms. Luce said, “You know, girl, I quite like you. Come visit me when you can.”
Aurora was surprised; they had only met twice, yet Ms. Luce expressed such fondness, leaving her astonished.
Ms. Luce, seeing Aurora’s reaction, chuckled, “Don’t be afraid, what can I do, sell you off?”
Aurora laughed too, “Alright, I’ll visit when I can.”
She inexplicably trusted that Ms. Luce bore no ill will towards her and agreed as if by fate.
Heath approached, telling Aurora, “Eamon is here. I need to step out.”
Aurora nodded, “Go ahead, I’ll chat with Ms. Luce a little bit longer.”
Aurora didn’t wish to go. Her relations with Eamon were always strained; encountering him would only create discord, making things
awkward for Heath.
Heath didn’t press her, bidding farewell to Ms. Luce before leaving.
