Chapter 225
Ms. Luce watched Heath’s retreating figure and remarked, “Girl, I may never have been married in my life, but I can clearly see the way you look at him, Isn’t he more than just a boyfriend?”

Aurora paused, then laughed, “Madam, what kind of look do you think I give him?”
“Dependence, trust, and sheer joy,” Ms. Luce said.
Aurora gazed outside at Heath’s departing car, murmuring, “Yes, everyone can see it, and he must see it too, right?”
Ms. Luce took Aurora’s hand, patting it gently, “Darling, recognizing it is one thing, but expressing it is quite another.”
Aurora, sitting in a wicker chair, pondered and asked, “Do I have to say it out loud? Isn’t it enough that we know it in our hearts?”
“Well, when I was younger, I was deeply in love with someone,” Ms. Luce said, looking into the distance.
“And what happened then?” Aurora inquired.
Ms. Luce smiled wistfully, “My father disapproved. We lived in America, and he was across the ocean. I thought he knew how I felt, and that after my graduation, I would go to him. But by the time I went to him, he already had a girlfriend.”
“Didn’t you explain to him?” Aurora asked, concerned.
Ms. Luce shook her head, “In our time, love was a lifelong matter. I loved him, but he no longer loved me, so any explanation seemed superfluous. I just saw him from a distance and then returned. So, Aurora, some things aren’t just about mutual understanding. Men can be quite oblivious. If you don’t express it, how can he be sure?”
Aurora twirled the cup in the tray, “I’m afraid.”
Ms. Luce drank her tea quietly, waiting for Aurora to speak. She had seen so much in her life and could tell that Aurora harbored many unspoken feelings.
After a pause, Aurora confessed, “Madam, I once naively loved someone who abandoned me. I’m terrified of experiencing that humiliation again.”
Ms. Luce, putting down her cup, looked at Aurora with a smile, “My dear, assuming all will be the same is just troubling oneself unnecessarily.”
Aurora was struck by the truth in those words.
She knew Heath was different from Dominic Ashcroft, knew of his undivided affection and tender feelings for her, and she was aware of her dependence and trust in Heath. It was just fear that always made her shy away from the word ‘love‘,
As if not saying it aloud, not acknowledging it, would forever spare her from humiliation.
It was like a causal chain.
Loving someone led to being abandoned and betrayed.

Chapter 225
Her tragic demise in a past life made her dread that outcome, so in this life, she desperately avoided that cause.
Not to love, not to be moved, meant no risk of abandonment or betrayal.
But while she tightly controlled her words, her heart had long been beyond her control.
She hesitated, avoiding the issue, pretending that if she never thought about it, she wouldn’t have to worry.
Heath, fearful of scaring her away, never pressed or questioned her.
But this was never fair to Heath.

He was indeed a bit petty, breaking the leg of a man who accidentally bumped into her, sending another to England for a slight against her.
He had done so much already, and she thought accepting his kindness, his hand–holding, kisses, and hugs, was acknowledgment enough of their feelings.
Ms. Luce’s words made her realize Heath needed her response.
Otherwise, who knows, one day he might not wait any longer.
Aurora jumped up, “Madam, I must go.”
It seemed quite rude, but Ms. Luce always seemed forgiving, nodding with a smile, “Go on, tell him quickly. A young man from the Fairbank family is quite a catch. You better hold on tight, or someone else might snatch him away!”
Aurora pouted, “No one can take him away from me!”
After bidding Ms. Luce farewell, she ran out, messaging Eamon Ironside to find their location, then hailed a cab straight to a downtown
bar.
She didn’t message Heath, fearing that if she did, she might lose the courage to go through with it.
Sitting in the taxi, Aurora became anxious, urging the driver to go faster, ever faster.
Truth be told, she hadn’t quite figured out what to say to Heath. She just felt an urge to tell him something, at least to see him, to embrace him.
Upon arriving at the bar, Aurora rushed upstairs, where Heath and Eamon were in a private room.
Without even knocking, Aurora burst through the door and stopped in her tracks, surprised.
She had thought Heath and Eamon were there for a gathering. She hadn’t expected another man in the room.
The man, a typical Caucasian, sat leisurely smoking a cigar, a beautiful blonde woman lighting his cigarette.
Both Eamon and Heath were accompanied by women, dressed in revealing, glamorous attire. Eamon was smoking, while Heath was holding a drink. A woman, nearly draped over Heath, cooed, “Sir, have a drink with me!”

Heath’s expression turned cold, but before he could speak, Aurora lunged forward, pulling the woman away and snatching Heath’s drink. She clinked glasses with the woman, challenging, “Want to drink? I’ll join you!”
The woman was stunned. She had finally gotten a chance to see Heath and hoped to charm him. But Aurora had disrupted her plans.
Heath, too, was startled. He glanced at Aurora, then turned a cold eye towards Eamon. Eamon was the only one who knew he was there.
“Who are you, barging in here and causing trouble? I’m drinking with Mr. Fairbank; what’s it to you?” the woman snapped.
“You’re getting too close to my man; of course, I have to intervene!” Aurora retorted, holding the bottle with a ready–to–fight attitude.
The woman, bold herself, saw Heath sitting still and splashed her drink on Aurora’s face, taunting, “Miss, so desperate for a man? How could Mr. Fairbank possibly be yours? Who are you anyway?”
Aurora, uncharacteristically calm, wiped her face, flinging off the liquid, “Me? I’m his girlfriend.”
Before the woman could mock her, Aurora turned to Heath, “Right?”
Heath’s lips curled into a smile, “Yes.”
The woman started.
Heath pulled Aurora to his side on the sofa, “Eamon, take care of it.”
Eamon signaled someone, and the woman was promptly dragged out.
Heath wiped Aurora’s face with a tissue, “Quite bold, saying anything you like.”
Aurora shrank back, muttering, “You always say I’m your girlfriend. Can’t I claim my rightful title…”
Heath chuckled softly, his gaze on Aurora deep and focused, “Certainly. As for the rest, we’ll discuss it later.”
Aurora blinked, “Discuss what later?”
Heath shook his head, saying nothing.
Eamon, sitting nearby, greeted, “Aurora, long time no see.”
Aurora tilted her head, returning the greeting, “Indeed, it has been a while.”
Eamon nodded, then addressed the Caucasian, “Mr. William, since Mr. Fairbank’s girlfriend has arrived, we shall talk another day.”
The man known as William laughed, said something to the blonde, and turned with a smile, “Since you’re here, join us for a drink!
Business can wait!”
Eamon’s expression changed slightly, looking towards Heath. Heath nodded subtly, gripping Aurora’s hand tighter. Aurora, sensing the tension, instinctively felt that the situation was not simple.
Heath took a sip of his drink, tidying Aurora’s hair, whispering, “Stay with me, don’t wander off.”
