Chapter 228
The car rushed to the hospital, and medical staff hurriedly wheeled Aurora into the emergency room. Heath followed closely, only to be stopped at the door.
This operation had been Eamon’s plan to target William’s stronghold. William, not acknowledging Eamon, dealt only with Heath. Heath had thought Aurora would be safe at Ms. Luce’s home, unaware that Eamon, concerned for Heath’s safety due to William’s heavy armament, had planned to use Aurora as a means to extract Heath from the situation.

No one expected Aurora to intervene so bravely, taking a bullet meant for Heath.
With William captured, Eamon had to deal with the Philadelphia police, leaving KING organization members busy. In the empty hospital corridor, Heath stood alone, staring at the glaring red “In Surgery” sign.
Heath was secretly displeased when Ms. Luce suggested that Aurora hadn’t acknowledged him as her boyfriend. He was a petty man but had been patient for Aurora’s sake, understanding her shyness and hesitation.
When Aurora had burst into the room, boldly claiming she was his girlfriend, Heath was stunned but elated. She had stood like a fierce heroine, proclaiming her claim on him. For the first time, she openly acknowledged their relationship, casting aside her doubts and fears.
He had wanted to hold her close, to kiss her passionately, especially after she declared him as her man. But the chaotic situation in the private room had prevented it.
He had pushed her to leave, thinking she was safe. Yet, she returned, foolishly brave, taking a bullet for him.
As she lay bleeding in his arms, Heath felt his own breath stop. He told himself it was just a shoulder wound, she would be fine.
But sometimes, what the mind understands and what the heart fears are entirely different.
Now, as Aurora was in surgery to remove the bullet, Heath felt as if the bullet had struck him too, his heart aching with every beat.
Half an hour later, when the emergency room lights went out, and the doctor emerged, Heath rushed to him, desperate for news. “How is she?‘
The doctor, with golden hair and blue eyes, looked at the disheveled man before him. “The young lady is fine. She’s lost a lot of blood and is unconscious, but she should wake up tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Heath, still tense, followed the nurse to the ward.
Aurora, who had arrived wearing only a bra, was now dressed in a hospital gown. The usually lively girl lay quietly on the bed, her face and lips pale.
Heath sat by her bedside, holding her small hand. The blood had been cleaned from her body, but the image of her collapsing, covered in blood, was etched in his mind, haunting him relentlessly.
When Aurora slowly came to, she moved her hand and felt something soft and furry.
She turned her head and saw Heath sleeping soundly beside her hospital bed. His distinct, angular features and thick, long eyelashes made him look like a prince from a fairy tale in his slumber.

Aurora’s hand felt numb. She moved it slightly, and Heath woke up. He met her clear eyes with surprise and joy, exclaiming, ‘Rory? You’re awake?‘
Aurora nodded weakly, smiling faintly. “Yes, I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
When Aurora tried to sit up, Heath immediately helped her, propping a pillow behind her back. Sitting by her bed, he asked, “How do you feel now? Any discomfort?”
She shook her head. “Just a bit dizzy.”
“You lost a lot of blood. You need to replenish,” Heath said.
Aurora nodded silently.
Suddenly, Heath asked, “Rory, why did you go there in the first place?”
Aurora hesitated, instinctively wanting to avoid the question. Then she remembered Ms. Luce’s words some things need to be said for the other person to understand.
For the first time, Aurora smiled a warm, relaxed smile. She hesitantly reached out and covered Heath’s large hand with her small one. Heath turned his hand over, holding hers, and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I went there to tell you that my feelings for you are the same as yours for me,” Aurora stammered.
She had never confessed her feelings in her two lifetimes. Even when she naively liked Dominic Ashcroft, she only focused on completing missions, never uttering the word ‘love‘.
Back then, she thought some things were understood without words, not realizing Dominic didn’t feel the same.
Now, wanting to confess to Heath, she was at a loss for words.
How had Heath confessed to her again?
Ah, right.
He always seemed like a born leader, confident and regal, boldly entering her room to tell her he liked her.
But when it was Aurora’s turn to confess, she faltered. She didn’t know how, and no one had taught her.
So, she blushed, fumbling for words, saying her feelings for Heath were the same as his for her.
That should be clear enough.
But Heath was momentarily stunned, asking, “Rory, the same as what?”
Aurora also froze, her face turning red. It felt like facing a firing squad just to say those words.
Heath gently stroked her hair, smiling. ‘It’s okay, take your time. I’ll go get you something to eat.”

Aurora, in panic, grabbed his sleeve, not letting him leave. Her face turned bright red as she blurted out, I mean to say, I love you, just as you love me!”
Heath looked at her with a soft, bright gaze, like the morning sun in Philadelphia. He caressed her face, his voice deep and captivating: ‘I
know.”
He understood her feelings. Having been through so much with Aurora, if he couldn’t see her affection, he wasn’t living right.
His Aurora, always so strong and independent, fighting her way forward as if chased by the reaper’s scythe. Stubbornly refusing help or trust from others, yet relying solely on him.
He knew by the way she looked at him. So, he was patient, willing to wait for her to sort things out and tell him.
But he hadn’t expected Aurora to confess so directly, so openly, so eagerly.
Her confession was far more impactful than her declaration of “He is my man” the previous night. Even though Heath had known her feelings, hearing them from her brought unparalleled joy.
He leaned down, kissing her slightly pale lips. They were in a hospital, yet Heath smelled not of disinfectant, but only of the girl in his
arms.
For once, Aurora clung to Heath’s collar, tilting her head back, embracing his intense kiss.
It seemed her words had truly delighted Heath, whose most direct way of expressing emotion was through a kiss.
A dominating, lingering, yet tender kiss.
After a while, Aurora pushed him gently, her voice soft and wavering, “I… I’m dizzy…”
Heath chuckled, his mood undiminished even though interrupted. He gently ruffled her hair, saying, “Lie down for a while. I’ll go get you something tasty.”
Aurora obediently nodded, and Heath helped her lie down before leaving the ward.
As soon as Heath stepped out of the hospital, he encountered Eamon approaching. Heath’s expression instantly turned icy. As Eamon drew near, Heath grabbed him by the collar and, with a swift punch, sent him sprawling to the ground.
