Chapter 255
Zane dragged Chery to stand beside Aurora with a bit of force. Adjusting her skirt, Chery inquired, ‘Aurora, what’s up?”
Aurora blinked in confusion, “What do you mean, “what’s up?”
Chery, equally puzzled, responded, “Didn’t you want to see me?”
Aurora glanced at Zane, who was making faces at her. With a resigned look towards Chery, she revealed, “Yes, a CEO expressed interest in having you star in
a commercial. What do you think?”
Chery smiled, saying, “You make the call. I trust your judgment. If you think it’s a good idea, then it’s fine by me.”
After discussing other matters, Chery was whisked away by an assistant, wine glass in hand, to mingle.
Aurora shot Zane a glare, questioning, ‘What’s with the craziness now?”
Zane, eyes following Chery’s departing figure, retorted, “Didn’t you say you’d stop bothering with me after the film festival? So, can I make my move now?*
Pinching the bridge of her nose, Aurora sighed, “Just one request–can you keep it low–key?”
Zane’s face lit up with joy, “You got it!”
As Aurora watched Zane flutter after Chery like a butterfly, she couldn’t help but shudder at the sight. It seemed Chery was the only one he had eyes for.
Aurora and Chery became the darlings of the evening, while Evelyn and Yvonne faced neglect.
Evelyn was somewhat better off, still enjoying the status of a once wildly popular actress and the dream woman of many men. Investors were still keen to share a drink with her, basking in the attention and flattery, while dismissing the ineffectiveness of Wilde.
Since the awards ceremony, Evelyn hadn’t spared Wilde another glance.
Yvonne, on the other hand, found herself in a rare calm. After three years of striving without success and family pressures mounting, it seemed her hopes in
the industry were dwindling.
With Yvonne hinting at retirement, Evelyn shifted her focus away, allowing Yvonne to leave the scene early.
Evelyn had come to a realization: relying on others was futile. Despite elevating Sophia and Yvonne, handing them resources on a silver platter, their
failures weren’t her burden.
Repeated failures had left her with no excuses for her family, and her studio was on the brink of closure.
Now, Evelyn’s strategy was to invest all resources in herself, elevate her value, cling to Elowen’s coattails, and marry into wealth. After all, a woman must
fend for herself.
Confident in her beauty, once acclaimed as one of the most beautiful faces, Evelyn saw no worth in Aurora’s capabilities in the face of strategic marriages. Who would choose Aurora, the least favored in the Pendleton family, over marrying a servant?
Adjusting her mood, Evelyn, with Elowen by her side, gracefully navigated among the elites, her laughter charming and inviting.

Chapter 255
Elewen’s status in high society was undeniable, with many assuming a romantic link between her and Heath, and Alaric showing a clear preference for her. At the party, Elowen was the embodiment of a proud princess.
Evelyn subtly hinted at her readiness for marriage, lacking only suitable suitors, hoping Elowen would introduce her to a few candidates.
But Elowen would not dare to recommend Alaric to Evelyn. If she couldn’t have Heath, Alaric was her fallback. Why would she hand him to Evelyn, who might just succeed in snaring him?
Elowen tactfully declined, mentioning, ‘The fiancée chosen for Alaric by his family is from a prominent British family. However, there are many outstanding young men in his family circle who could be introduced to you.”
Upon realizing Alaric was out of reach, but others in the Strider family were available, Evelyn’s interest was piqued. Any connection to wealth was a viable
option.
Evelyn, with a flattering smile, tugged at Elowen’s sleeve, ‘Elowen, didn’t you mention you could invite Alaric over for a couple of drinks? Call him over!”
Elowen nodded, “Sure, I’ll go get him.”
Alaric was deep in conversation with Aurora when Elowen approached. Aurora, eyeing Zane’s figure, commented, “Has Zane never had a girlfriend?”
Alaric nodded, “Exactly! Who knows what’s gotten into him now? His temper… which girl could stand it?”
Aurora glanced at Alaric, retorting, “And you’re one to talk, always so cool and composed.”
After a long silence, Alaric sipped his champagne and finally asked, ‘Have you seen Vespera lately?”
Aurora shook her head, “No, she’s been laying low recently.”
Nodding, Alaric fell silent again.
Elowen came over, greeted Alaric with a smile, and with a gentle demeanor, she invited, “Alaric, care to join us for a drink? I’d like to introduce you to a few
friends.”
Alaric, accustomed to accepting Elowen’s invitations, was about to respond when Zane suddenly appeared, pulling Alaric aside, “Brother! Vespera’s sick!”
Alaric paused, “Sick?”
Zane nodded vigorously, “Yes, Lysander said Vespera’s in the hospital right now. You should go see her!”
Without even a chance to say goodbye to Elowen, Alaric left his drink and hurried off.
Aurora, suspecting Zane was using an excuse to draw Alaric away from Elowen, saw his serious expression and asked, “Aren’t you going? I’m not joking, she really is sick!”
Convinced, Aurora put down her glass and followed Alaric, heading to the hospital together.
Elowen, watching Alaric’s hurried departure, felt a surge of anger. There was a time when Alaric’s emotions would only fluctuate because of her.
And now, who was this Vespera, this sudden fox spirit?
Wasn’t it enough for Aurora to steal Heath away? Now her friend was set to lure Alaric too?

Chapter 255
Zane, noticing Elowen’s frustration, chuckled, “Why are you here instead of with Evelyn? What are you doing?”
Elowen opened her mouth to reply, but Zane, looking disdainfully at her, cut her off, ‘Stay away from my brother. I won’t accept you as my sister–in–law!
Turning his back, Zane went off in search of Chery, leaving Elowen fuming at his audacious demeanor. What right did this playboy have to dictate Alaric’s
decisions?
Returning to Evelyn’s side, Elowen found her surprised, “Elowen, where’s Alaric?”
Embarrassed, Elowen managed a weak smile, ‘Evelyn, I’m sorry, it seems Aurora’s friend suddenly fell ill, and Alaric had to rush to the hospital.”
Evelyn’s face fell, “Why should Alaric bother with Aurora’s sick friend?”
Elowen looked pitiful, “Well… it must be Aurora’s doing. You know how close she is with Zane, naturally she can speak with Alaric.”
Evelyn grew even more unwilling to accept this. How could she allow Aurora to climb the social ladder before her? Aurora had barely known Zane and was
already boasting proudly. If she got to know the Fairbank family through Alaric, what place would there be left for Evelyn in this city?
