Aurora had a restless night filled with bizarre dreams. One moment she was drinking with Jasper Bennett, the next Dominic Ashcroft was picking her up, and then she saw Isabella Whitmore shooting Mike dead.

The thought of losing Mike and Arno made her heart ache so much she could hardly breathe.

When the cab pulled up to the Pendleton house, Aurora and Little Fish got out. She told Little Fish to go rest while she headed to her

room.

Walking into the mansion, Sebastian was nowhere to be found, neither was Madeline. Sophia was lounging on the living room couch, flipping through a fashion magazine, while Maxwell was on the other side of the couch, typing away on his laptop.

Sophia looked up as Aurora walked in, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Oh, you remembered you have a home? Where’d you go gallivanting last night?”

Aurora didn’t have time for her. All she wanted was a shower and a change of clothes; she felt grimy.

Ignoring Sophia, she turned to head upstairs. Sophia wasn’t having it. “Hold it! I’m talking to you! Have you no manners?”

Aurora looked back at her, smiling. “I save my manners for humans. Why waste them on a rabid dog that bites people?”

Sophia was livid. She threw her magazine at Aurora. “Who are you calling a rabid dog?”

“Whoever answers is the answer,” Aurora retorted.

Sophia was about to lunge at her when Maxwell spoke up, “Sit down!”

Sophia stomped her foot, “Bro, did you hear how she talked to me?”

Maxwell looked up at Aurora. She was wearing a knee-length dress, her long hair cascading down her back. Her face was a mix of exhaustion and a mocking smile. He had never noticed how stunning she was, even when she was being sarcastic.

“Act like the lady you’re supposed to be. Sit down,” Maxwell commanded.

Sophia huffed and sat back down.

Aurora turned and went upstairs, pondering Maxwell’s unexpected support. What was he thinking?

Once in her room, she took an hour-long shower before finally feeling refreshed. She put on a long-sleeved dress and a trench coat; it might be warm in Seaview, but winter still had a chill.

With a touch of light makeup, she grabbed her bag and headed downstairs, planning to finalize the house for Jasper and his crew to move

As she descended, Sophia blocked her way. Maxwell was nowhere to be seen.

“Where did you go last night, you little tramp?” Sophia sneered.

“None of your damn business, Aurora shot back.

I’ll tell Dad you were out all night. Let’s see how he deals with you,” Sophia gloated.

“Oh, you wanna know where I was? I was on a date with your Ethan,” Aurora said, a playful smile on her lips.

“That’s a lie! You’re lying!” Sophia shrieked like a cornered rabbit.

Aurora looked at her, amused. Sophia really cared about this Ethan guy. He must be something special.

“Why would it be impossible? I’m pretty and smart, not a brute like you. Why would Ethan say no to me?” Aurora taunted.

Sophia looked at Aurora, realizing she was indeed beautiful, charming, and even their grandfather was smitten by her. Men would naturally be attracted to a girl like that.

But Ethan was hers! No one could take him!

“You’re lying! You’re lying! You bitch!” Sophia screamed, lunging at Aurora. Aurora was caught off guard and stumbled backward, about to fall down the stairs.

That’s when Maxwell, who had just walked into the living room with a stack of papers, saw the scene unfold. Sophia was hysterically pushing Aurora, who was about to tumble down the stairs.

With quick reflexes, he rushed over and caught Aurora, papers scattering like snowflakes. He looked down into her somewhat startled

eyes.
