Chapter 84

Over the past month, freshmen had been trickling into the Imperial University. For some reason, the campus had caught “freshman beauty queen‘ fever.
The school forum was constantly updating with photos of pretty new students, all vying for votes. Vespera nudged Aurora, “You’re so pretty, Aurora. Why not post a pic?”
Aurora just rolled her eyes. “Not interested.”
She really couldn’t care less about this beauty contest stuff.
But the next day, as she arrived at school, there was a commotion at the entrance. Aurora and Vespera looked to see what was happening. Stepping out of a luxury car was none other than Sophia.
Aurora knew Sophia had been admitted to the Media Studies program, but shouldn’t she be on a film set right now? What was she doing
here?
Sophia looked like she’d just stepped off the red carpet, wearing a tailored white gown, her curly hair cascading down her back. Her makeup was flawless, making her look like a doll.
As the crowd jostled, Aurora got pushed and stumbled into Sophia’s line of sight.
Sophia glanced at her and smiled sweetly, “sister.”
Aurora straightened her clothes and retorted, “Don’t act so familiar. My mom only had me.”
She turned and walked away, pulling Vespera with her. Vespera sensed her mood and didn’t press further.
One of the reasons Aurora was friends with Vespera was that she knew how to keep her distance and never pried into Aurora’s personal life. It made for a comfortable friendship.
The next day, the school forum exploded again. A glaring red headline announced, “Imperial University Discovers Mini Evelyn Pendleton!”
The photo was of Sophia, looking as sweet as ever.
Sophia quickly gathered a large fan following, mostly guys smitten by her beauty.
What left Aurora speechless was the post that followed, featuring a candid shot of her and Sophia at the school gate. Despite her plain appearance, Aurora looked no less stunning than Sophia.
And just like that, Aurora was unwittingly thrust into the beauty queen race.
The forum even gave them nicknames: Sophia was dubbed “Sweet Princess,” while Aurora was called “Ice Queen.”
Sophia looked sweet in the photos, but Aurora was stone–faced. Still, a lot of guys and girls were Team Aurora.
“Aurora is the epitome of cool!”

“Those dagger–like eyes have pierced my heart!”
“Look at me, goddess!”
Aurora logged off the forum. Vespera chuckled, “Not happy about making the list?”
Aurora scoffed, “What’s there to be happy about?”
“But you don’t like Sophia, right? Consider this a way to tick her off,” Vespera suggested.
Aurora shook her head, “Why would I want to tick her off? Not interested.”
Aurora thought this would blow over soon. She didn’t want to get involved.
But the next day, new photos of her appeared on the forum–eating, attending class, walking, chatting with Vespera.
Students commented that Aurora didn’t need any filters; she was a goddess in everyday life.
Fed up, Aurora posted, “I don’t want to be the beauty queen. Stop taking pictures of me.”
This comment set off another wave of discussion.
“Ah! She’s so cool!”

“Even her tone is cold through the screen!”
Aurora blocked the forum. She was busy preparing for her company and had no time for this nonsense.
Heath had already had Kieran handle all the paperwork. Initially, she just wanted to start a media studio without even a specific location. When Heath asked her to pick a name, she couldn’t think of a good one even after three days.
Three days later, during dinner, Heath handed her a document. It read “Fairwave Media.”
Aurora was speechless, “Heath, you already have the huge Fairbank Corporation, and now you want to monopolize my little workshop?”
Heath handed her another document, a company merger agreement. “Sign this, and Fairwave Media will become a subsidiary of Fairbank Corp. But when to sign is up to you.”
Aurora knew this was Heath’s safety net for her.
If her little workshop ever failed, this agreement would make Fairbank Corp her safety net.
“Thanks,” Aurora muttered,
Heath didn’t even look up, “I don’t need thanks. Got anything more concrete?”
“Like what?” Aurora asked.
Heath glanced at her, “How about a kiss?”

He was still hung up on that fleeting kiss from last time.
‘Drop dead, Aurora said, focusing back on her meal.
Just like that, Heath ruined the moment.

Right after dinner, Aurora’s phone wouldn’t stop ringing. She answered, “What’s up, Vespera?”
Vespera sounded urgent, “Haven’t you checked the forum?”
“No, what happened?” Aurora asked.
“Go check. You’re practically being cyberbullied,” Vespera urged.

Aurora logged in and saw that the top post was no longer Sophia’s photo but a series of pictures of her.
The photos showed a girl who must’ve weighed at least 180 pounds, with messy hair, sleeping in a classroom corner.
The comments were getting increasingly nasty.
“Is this Aurora? Gross!”
“I can’t believe it! She’s not my beauty queen!”
“Time to face reality, bro. Your queen is an ugly duckling?”
“I feel nauseous looking at her now.”
“Turns out she’s just a fat loser. What’s with the icy attitude?”
Vespera was still on the phone, “Did you see it?”
‘I saw,” Aurora said, her voice low.
“Who would do this? And what does your past have to do with them?” Vespera was frantic.
I know who it is. Don’t worry, I’ll handle it,” Aurora said and hung up.
Aurora looked at those photos, feeling more pity than anger.
This girl should’ve had a normal childhood and adolescence, just like any other girl.
But unlike Olivia, who went through hellish training, what Aurora experienced was endless ridicule and invisible cold violence.
This girl, who looked just like her, gave her a second life, a second chance for revenge and a fresh start.
But she never really understood what the real Aurora’s life had been like,

Heath stood behind her, placing his warm hand on her shoulder, “I’ll have Kieran handle it.”
Aurora shook her head, “No need, I’ll do it myself.”
Heath frowned, “Don’t be reckless, Rory.”
Aurora turned to him and smiled, “I’m not being reckless. Just have Kieran help me out, and I’ll take care of her.”
She didn’t need to think twice to know that Sophia was behind this.
She never took the beauty queen contest seriously, but Sophia did, and she was “very serious” about competing with her.
If that’s the case, why not give her a run for her money?
