From his throat, to his collarbone, to his chest. Finally, they landed on his firm abdomen.
She traced the ridges lightly, her movements arrogant and completely provocative, as if she were claiming total ownership of him.
With every shift of her fingers, his breathing visibly roughened, his muscles tightening further.
Serena peered up at him through her lashes, her flushed, intoxicated gaze enough to steal anyone's soul. She just smiled at him, watching his body react to her touch.
Suddenly, she lifted her head and bit down hard on his pale collarbone, leaving a distinct, highly suggestive red mark.
Nicholas's breathing became terrifyingly heavy. The emotion in his eyes was ready to spill over, the corners of his eyes flushed a seductive red. He squeezed his eyes shut, his composure completely shattered.
He brushed a thumb over the spot she had just bitten, then leaned closer to her.
"You bit too lightly," he murmured, his raspy voice laced with a mesmerizing allure. "Serena, you can be... even rougher."
His low, tempting tone was a mix of indulgence and pure seduction.
Serena's thick lashes fluttered, a faint smile rippling through her gorgeous eyes.
Suddenly, she exerted a burst of strength and pinned him down on the bed.
Resting against his chest, listening to his thunderous heartbeat, Serena smiled. "What? Can't handle it?"
He rested his chin on her head, his chest heaving, yet his tone was full of restraint. "Serena, you cried today."
She stiffened slightly, tilting her head up to look at him.
He brushed his fingers over her eyes, then her cheek. "Your eyes are a little red. You hid it well, but I know... you cried because of your grandmother. I've always been completely serious about you. And because I'm serious, I won't take advantage of you when you're vulnerable. I know you're upset today. I don't want anything to happen between us when you're just trying to numb yourself with alcohol. Being with you is the most beautiful thing I could ever imagine. And the most beautiful thing should happen when everything is perfect, when you're truly happy. You deserve the best."
Serena's eyelashes fluttered. She hadn't expected this man to be so incredibly perceptive.
