He had seen right through all her armor, all her forced strength.
The tightly wound string in her heart completely relaxed. She buried her face in his chest, a hint of arrogant amusement in her voice. "Miss this chance, and there won't be another. You'll be waiting a long time for your next reward."
Nicholas gently stroked her soft hair, smiling. "Serena, I can wait."
The exhaustion finally caught up with her. Between the alcohol and the sudden drop in tension, she fell into a deep sleep, lulled by his strong, steady heartbeat.
He looked down at her peaceful face and her even breathing. He kissed the top of her head. "Sleep."
...
The next morning.
Bright sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows into the bedroom.
Serena frowned, slowly opening her eyes, feeling a lazy lethargy spread through her limbs. She shifted, wanting to rub her temples, but realized she didn't have the typical hangover headache.
However, as soon as she moved... she felt as though she was trapped against something. Her face had brushed against a expanse of warm skin.
She blinked.
The sight before her was incredibly striking.
Nicholas was lying next to her. His shirt was a mess, all the buttons undone, hanging completely open. His lean torso and sculpted muscles looked flawless.
Serena couldn't help but swallow hard.
"Ah..." Nicholas looked down at his exposed chest, as if just realizing his shirt was completely unbuttoned. He blinked, his expression innocent and tinged with grievance. "Serena, you were so rough when you were drunk last night. You took total advantage of me. You tossed and turned me so much I didn't sleep a wink."
He lifted a long finger and slowly traced the bite mark on his collarbone, then the scratches on his abs. His expression grew even more pitiful, his tone thoroughly wounded. "Serena, I tried to resist, but you were just too strong... I couldn't fight you off..."
Serena: "..."
Her mouth twitched. "Do you even believe what you're saying? I was drunk, not suffering from amnesia."
At most, she had touched him a bit, bit him once, and scratched him. Then she fell asleep. How had she tormented him all night?
