She even patted Serena’s shoulder. "Besides, that's all part of my brother's dowry. Don't be shy about it, Serena!"

Serena didn't know what to say.

Serena glanced at Nicholas again. "It's probably better if you don't right now."

Brianna's eyes widened. They darted around for a moment before she quickly tucked the box into her shirt. "Okay, I won't open it! I'll look at it in secret later!"

Serena chatted with her for a while longer, until a nurse came in with Dr. Beverly's instructions: Brianna needed one more detailed check-up before she could be officially discharged.

The nurse was going to wheel Brianna for the tests, and Nicholas, as a family member, had to accompany her.

He was pale, with dark circles under his eyes. His hair wasn't as meticulously styled as usual, completely lacking the confident swagger of the genius doctor, the youngest department head at Starlight Royal Medical Center.

When his eyes met Serena's, they were filled with pain, confusion, and a hint of disbelief.

Serena frowned, her tone impatient. "Why is it you again?"
