Patrick frowned and shot Marianne a glare before putting on a smile to smooth things over. “Mom, don’t be angry with Marianne. She’s just worried about the Wynn Group, that’s why she’s so anxious.”

“In my opinion, why don’t you and Serena just come back to Vaelion City with us? Living out here in the countryside, you’re so far away. If anything happens, we can’t take care of you.”

Before Old Mrs. Wynn could answer.

Marianne screeched, her voice shrill as she cut him off. “Go to Vaelion City? What for?! The four brats at home are already a handful! The company is a mess of problems, and we’re overwhelmed. Who has the spare time to wait on you two? Isn't it chaotic enough?”

“That’s enough!” Old Mrs. Wynn couldn’t take it anymore, her brow furrowed as she roared, “How old is Serena? What does she know? If you don’t want this daughter, then don’t ever come back! Just pretend we both died here in the countryside!”

“Fine by me! You think I enjoy coming here?” Marianne spat. “You think I want to come to this godforsaken place? This little jinx, you can have her. It’s not like I want her anyway…”
